Even Anakin wasn't going to invite the entire town to stand outside in radiation and next to a bomb just for a day of competition (though yes, he had considered in for a hot minute). Today's event was being held in the community center and the flickering lights and general malaise just kind of added to what would be the world's weirdest fashion show.

Because, yes, there was a catwalk set up down the center, currently being sat upon by a small herd (committee? Murder?) of gremlins.

"Today we will reprise last year's highly popular gremlin fashion show," Anakin yelled into the completely unnecessary bullhorn.

It was only popular if you'd talked to Sparkle and Brooke, who'd been judges last year, but details. "You will be paired up!" Anakin continued. "You will have a variety of crafting supplies including macrame patterns, felt, rope, yarn, glue, staplers, and stun guns!"

Stun guns were craft supplies if you squinted? Maybe?

"You will have a half hour to create your masterpiece, another fifteen minutes to fit your model into it without getting bitten--" so good luck with that, "and then send him, her, or them down the runway for our guest judges to assess your work!"

He gestured at the chairs next to the runway. "Please welcome--" he frowned as Beaker handed him the list, "--Sparkle, Brooke, Keyleth, and..Camden."

This wasn't exactly what he meant when he'd asked Beaker to round up some catty judges. Oh well!

"Listen for your names!"

Nina considered that answer. And Mae.

Somehow she thought it was probably going to go terribly and yet, well, it might actually be really funny too...........

"Well, like, if you mess up," Nina said, "make sure it's a spectacular mess, okay?????????? Have you ever made clothes before?????????? I, like, have some experience with that??????"

Mae excelled at making her messes spectacular.

"I made this shirt," she said, looking down at her t-shirt with pride. It was . . . in fact a functional t-shirt. With a little 'not' sign on it. It looked relatively well constructed, even. "And I've totally wrangled gremlins before!"

And then spent the afternoon convinced she was an angry, Scottish, robber-baron duck.

Well... there were worse ways to spend an afternoon, right?

"Then we're, like, totally set!!!!!!!!! We've got this!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nina laughed. "Should we, like, start with a t-shirt shape and then modify it from there???????? We have to, like, bling it up, right????????? The gremlins will totally love it--the judges too!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I feel like gremlins are more punk or metal, rather than glam," Mae said thoughtfully. She looked at the judges, who were . . . kind of a mixed bag. "Do we even have much bling?"

There was the stapler, but that wasn't really bling.

"We have some rocks we could maybe make shiny if we, like, polished them????????????" Nina had to agree that bling was probably the wrong word. "Metal or punk would probably be easier, you right............."

"Polishing would probably take awhile," Mae said. She was looking at the gremlins again, trying to see if any of them might be Little Joe. "Do you think we get to pick our own model?"

Nina cast a speculative look over at the gremlins herself.

They... they all looked about equally unappealing to her as models.

"Is there, like, a particular one you want???????"

"I think . . . that one might be the one I already made friends with."

It wasn't. And she hadn't actually made friends with Little Joe.
