Sparkly Destruction - Arts & Crafts That You Can Use, Thursday 3rd Period

At least one of your teachers was really excited to fight a dinosaur. At the very least, one was pretty much bouncing with suppressed energy as class began.

"We should have dinos in our next fighty class," Magnus said.

"I like the feathery ones better." That wasn't a disagreement, giant, feathered murderbirds seemed a lot more dangerous.

"We can find those after!" Compromise, children. About fighting giant, feathered murderbirds.

Magnus grinned at the class, gesturing out into the woods. "So there are super dangerous things out here now. Let's make a simple weapon out of what we've got!"

And in case they hadn't figured it from the fact what they had were pointy sticks and sparkly rocks, "Since most of these super dangerous things are bigger than you, that means you want something with reach."

"A spear!" Did he need to emphasize the word that much? No. But it was fun to say like that. "Please don't stab each other, though. I think we'd get in trouble for that."

"Let's not find out."

Magnus nodded in plaintive agreement. "We've got sticks and rocks and extra glitter."

Start making plans to be in or avoid their next class.

You have long pointy sticks (that may have been broom handles at one point), sharp rocks (sparkly, because the universe hates Cara), twine, and so much glitter.

Mae was going to put sharp rocks on both ends of her stick so it could be a twirling baton of death!

. . . It was cute how she thought she could twirl things.

"That seems like an interesting version," Shuri said, not commenting on the twirling.

"Thanks," Mae said. "I'm very good at interesting. Especially the 'terrible, but at least it's fun to look at' kind of way."

Shuri laughed. "That's definitely a niche market."

"Not where I'm from." Mae shrugged. "We're in the middle of nowhere. 'Terrible but fun to look at' is sometimes all we get."

"What's the most fun thing that you've made?" Shuri asked, tying a sparkly rock to her completely-a-broomstick.

Mae had to think about that one for a bit. "My friend Gregg and I once covered his bike in streamers made out of lost pet fliers," she said. "We painted them all purple and red, and drew angry eyes and fangs on handlebars. We gummed up the gears so bad that Gregg fell over as soon as he tried to ride it, and then Granddad said that that was why we didn't have nice things."

Shuri giggled at the mental image. "At least it wasn't boring!"

"'Boring' is basically the one thing no one has ever called me."

And that was even in the land where her having a cat face was the definition of normal.

"You're Mae, right?" Shuri checked, smiling. "I'm Shuri."

"Yup, that's me." Mae nodded. "Nice to meet you. Want to show me what you're making?"

"So far, it's not that impressive of a spear," Shuri said. "It needs to be able to shock people or shoot glitter."

She frowned. "Maybe both."

"Totally go for both," Mae said. "You could do, like, a little hose full of glitter water and some wires with a battery pack. . . ." Which was a great way to electrocute herself, but hey, at least she was thinking?

Shuri winced slightly. "Or something similar without the possibility of electrocution?" she suggested.

Mae hated getting electrocuted.

"Well, I don't exactly love being electrocuted," Shuri said.

"It does suck pretty hard," Mae admitted. "But you know if you make it shock people, you're basically just electrocuting them, right?"

"Oh, I have no problem electrocuting other people," Shuri said with a little grin. "I have a pair of gauntlets that do that."

"What, really?" Mae blinked at that. "That's . . . hardcore."

"I like to make things," Shuri said, "and back home we had a brief...coup. It's fine now, though!"

"I guess taser gloves would probably be pretty helpful during a coup," Mae acknowledged. "Or if you had to fight vampires."

Though she was still going to end up going back to her trusty bat if that came up again.

"People keep mentioning vampires in a way that I'm starting to believe they aren't kidding about," Shuri said carefully.

"Oh good. 'Cause it would really suck if it turned out I just hallucinated that whole thing."

"So you used taser gloves to fight vampires?" Shuri asked.

This was fine. Totally fine. Vampires, dinosaurs...T'Challa in no way would freak out about this. Nope.

"Noooo," Mae said. "I used a baseball bat. And screaming."

Never underestimate the power of a tiny cat-faced person shrieking like a banshee.

"I heard your screaming was very impressive during the relay race," Shuri said.

"I'm an Olympic quality screamer."

Mae.

"I did not realize that was an event now," Shuri replied.

"Not officially. But that just makes it even more fun."

At least one of who is judging your efforts.
