Camp Shenanigans [Wednesday, May 15, 2019]

With the dinosaurs out and about, Anakin decided that getting students eaten was not a great idea if he couldn't specify which ones, plus liability and the school board and the paperwork, so everyone was shoved inside of the community center instead.

"Today we're pretending like it's raining and cold!" Anakin declared through the megaphone which was super unnecessary inside. Sorry, everyone's ears. "We have several stations of craft projects and games, many of which will make reappearances later this summer so get good at them."

Especially the macramé. Just sayin'.

"Today is about learning and not competing, for once, so take your time, meet the other people on the island, and make a better loincloth for Tino or something." Anakin shuddered. Radio had been scarring, though not as scarring as being in Caritas, apparently.

"...and go!"

The megaphone, predictablY, shrieked horribly as he turned it off.

"Nope!" Amaya lifted her hands as if to absolve herself from any of this, although the grin might be making it difficult to convince anyone of the serious tone she was going for. "I've already said too much. If I say any more, it'll just wind up like the boats and not happen at all! My lips," she lifted her chin in defiance, "are sealed! You'll just have to keep on your knot-tying toes, Fjord."

Fjord shook his head a little, chuckling a bit as he did so.

"Well, now you got me rightly terrified, Amaya," he chided. "... But I suppose I'll survive. Guess that means I'm gonna have to go work on my knots in the meantime, though."

"We'll all be much better off for it," Amaya confirmed with a nod. "And now you've got something else to look forward to...even if you don't rightly know what you're looking for."

Which was half the fun right there, really.

"Wouldn't want to ruin the surprise, is that right?" Fjord smirked faintly. "Hell of a lot of interesting activities here today, and if any of these have anything to do with what we'll be doin' in the future, I suppose we're in for an interesting summer, indeed."

A pause.

"Especially if these are going on while we're in some kind of tropical jungle full of giant lizards."

"Yeah, I'm still not sure what to make of all that," Amaya admitted, sobering slightly with a faintly creased brow. "It's like someone went and tried to make dragons but forgot exactly how. A few of them remind me of the Sloks you find in the Westering Mountains, actually, which almost makes me wonder if I should start hunting for eggs; I'd bet they fetch a few shiny gold coins back home if they're anything similar, but hunting Slok eggs is more trouble than their worth, I don't care how much the lords and ladies talk 'em up."

"Can't rightly say I actually know what a Slok is," Fjord noted, frowning thoughtfully. "What do people use the eggs for?"

"For eating," Amaya answered easily enough with a shrug. "They're considered a delicacy. I can't imagine they taste much different from any old other eggs, though I've never tried them, so I wouldn't rightly know."

There was...a slight pause.

"Should it be worrying that now I'm thinking of going and finding some eggs?"

Fjord considered that a moment or three, and then shrugged.

"Ever gonna get the chance to try again? I have a feelin' we're not gonna be makin' much progress on those rapiers tomorrow, are we?"

"Uuurrrggggghhhhhh." The sound escaping Amaya just then was not too dissimilar to air escpaing a tire, assuming that tires tended to groan and roll their eyes. "Always with the weapons; these things always have to go and mess with the weapons! Oh, sure, my phone works just fine, everything in the apartment is just the same as it always was," plus one cat, "but the forge itself? Like alllll the fine development in iron work that my whole lifelihood is based on neeeever happened. Those rapiers we've been working on right now are nothing but nicely fashione swishy sticks."

Fjord considered that for a few moments, and then, with an apologetic smile, offered, "Sure, but I bet nobody else can say they put half as much work into some sticks as we have?"
