Camp Shenanigans [Wednesday, May 15, 2019]

With the dinosaurs out and about, Anakin decided that getting students eaten was not a great idea ~~if he couldn't specify which ones~~, plus liability and the school board and the paperwork, so everyone was shoved inside of the community center instead.

"Today we're pretending like it's raining and cold!" Anakin declared through the megaphone which was super unnecessary inside. Sorry, everyone's ears. "We have several stations of craft projects and games, many of which will make reappearances later this summer so get good at them."

Especially the macramé. Just sayin'.

"Today is about learning and not competing, for once, so take your time, meet the other people on the island, and make a better loincloth for Tino or something." Anakin shuddered. Radio had been scarring, though not as scarring as being in Caritas, apparently.

"...and go!"

The megaphone, predictablY, shrieked horribly as he turned it off.

Eat snacks! Avoid any of the folding tables full of craft-y crap!

Oh boy, crafts!

Take the beanbags! Toss them into the holes in the boards. First team of two to 21 points wins.

Nothing explodes while you play. Nothing should explode when the next team plays, either, but Anakin has met you people.

There is a huge pile of colorful sticks on the floor. Pick up sticks without touching another stick. First person to pick up the last stick or to survive without moving any other sticks wins.

Nothing should explode over here, either.

Put on blindfolds, take a stick and take turns smacking on the giant Papier-mâché gremlin until it breaks.

It totally explodes. But in a safe way! Plus candy!

Make a macramé thing!

And while you're there, untie Beaker from the rope, okay? He got a little knotted up.

Low key this week because I totally spaced on the sign-up post. Sorry, gang!

Iris had, in fact, caved and left her lab in a pair of jeans and a pink t-shirt (Amazon Prime had come through for her; she wasn't thinking about how that worked but she also wasn't complaining) and now that she heard the activity of the week…

"Somethin' 'bout this feels like a trick," she observed. "Or a trap. If nothing goes wrong I'm goin' to be super disappointed."

Nonetheless, she was having her hair braid itself up so it wasn't in her way as she… played.

"That's not a lightsaber, Val," Ben was lecturing his daughter who had immediately picked up a stick, made lightsaber noises and whacked her father with it. "If it was, I'd not have an arm any more and amputation isn't funny!"

Val didn't look remotely convinced by this argument.

Kitty would be the one with the stroller yelling, "Don't encourage the loincloth!"

Sabine was trying the candle-making, since she could get creative with the colors.

There was some trial and error in getting it how she wanted, but that was okay. She'd figure it out!

Well, Fjord's shifts at the forge had been rearranged so that he could attend these things. He supposed that meant... he ought to attend these things.

But now that he was here, he was mostly squinting at the activities with a slowly rising sense of dread.

... Maybe he'd be better off outside with the dinosaurs.

Well, Fjord was a sailor by trade. If there was one thing he knew his way around, it was knots.

... Not for this particular purpose, but what the hell. Why not.

He wasn't sure what he was meant to be making, but if anybody asked, it was going to be a net. Even if he was mostly just tying knots for the sake of knot-tying.

To say Amaya was disappointed that the competition aspect of these activities had been set aside for this week would be...a vast understatement. As far as she was concerned, that was pretty much the whole point.

There were games, though, those could be competitive. And it shouldn't be too hard to turn some of those crafts into a competition, too...

...really, anything was a competition if you tried hard enough! Maybe that was the whole point of any of this today.

Oh, hey! Intricate little fiddly work with colorful string! That was right up Prompto's alley, and, hey, he'd gotten Vette a kitten, but he hadn't really done anything for Sidon yet. So Sidon could get....a friendship bracelet.

Oh, shut up, like anyone's going to argue that Sidon wouldn't be completely over the moon about it. And if Prompto was going to do any of the crafts, he liked this one best, and thought some cool blues and silvers and greys that sort of reminded him of Zora's Domain would be fitting, maybe with some beads carefully woven in there.

He would have liked to make more, really, probably one for everyone, but there was one that he'd wind up making that would just be awkward, so it was probably best if he just avoided all that and simply stuck to a few for the big guy for now. Maybe one for Yang, too, as soon as he tried to figure out if that was actually way too corny, or just the right amount of corny. It was hard to tell!

If anybody needed Vette, she was going to be riiiight here, blindfolded, swinging a stick at a paper gremlin like she had Some Stuff To Work Out.

... She kind of did. And if nobody stopped her so that they could get a turn soon, that gremlin was going down.

Summer had already decided that she was going to offer free jello shots to anyone who took part in the summer activities, so she figured she'd better make an appearance herself, not only to tell people about it if she had the chance, but also to, you know, see who actually participated.

She was still on the fence about it, herself. But she did know, if she did join in, BDG better be ready to have about a million new fucking friendship bracelets, because she was the worst, and she couldn't just let him forget that any time soon, now, could she?

Sidon wasn't exactly thrilled to be indoors for this week's activity, but, under the circumstances, he supposed he could understand, and he'd make up for it with a swim later because the new friends (and some not-quite-friends) that had taken residence in the waters around the island lately were absolutely and utterly fascinating and delightful (except maybe those not-quite-friends).

He wasn't sure any of the activities quite called out to him, either, so he was contemplating which he might like to pursue. Maybe he'd try all of them!

None of this was doing anything to shake the junior cub scouts vibes Wayne'd been getting from most of the things around here (outside of the dinosaurs and aliens and talking animals, anyway), and he was mostly just standing there wondering if all this was actually mandatory. He could go for some cornhole, though. What good country boy didn't like a good two, three rounds of cornhole?

Once Rosa saw (and heard, thanks for that, Skywalker) what was going down for this week, she just barked out a short laugh and a resounding, "Nope!" and turned to go.

If there wasn't anything except cornhole that she could beat kids at, what was the whole point? Last week's winning leg had given her a taste for blood, and nothing but more blood would suffice.

"I don't know," Kanan mused, standing back and smirking a little. "She's got pretty good form for that age, don't you think?"

Kanan, don't encourage lightsaber abuse around Skywalkers. This was how people lost hands.
