Camp Shenanigans [Wednesday morning, May 8, 2019]

Beaker was putting the last of the balloons in place (so...floating away. Don't worry, he'll be fine in a second) on the bleachers that had been set back up in the park in the center of town. There were also a couple of big screen televisions set up so that the crowd could watch the action when the contestents (you lucky volunteers, you!) were outside the park.

It was also a warning to the contestants that this week's game would be taking them out of the park.

"Today, we will be doing a very quick tour of the island!" Anakin yelled into his megaphone. He didn't really need the megaphone--he just liked the way everyone would wince when he made it squeal. "You will be working in teams to complete a series of obstacles I've set up around town. Fastest team to complete the course does not win a fish."

At the blank looks from some of the newbies, Anakin explained. "Last year there was an plastic fish that attained sentience and attacked us at the end of the summer. It was a thing."

Well, "explained" if it also meant "in a way that absolutely did not make it Anakin's fault."

"Listen as your teams are called and where your assingments are! I will then give you ten minutes to get into place and then Beaker--where'd he go?"

Beaker waved and meeped from a tree.

"And Beaker will shoot off the starting pistol which is not a real gun, right Beaker?" Anakin checked.

Beaker meeped affirmatively.

"Well, we'll see how that goes," Anakin muttered.

Steve was sitting it out today, but he had hot dogs to munch and a voice to cheer on faces he recognized (or didn't, he just liked a good competition).

Kitty had decided to check this out before actually participating this time, so she found a spot on the bleachers to sit with Lexi in her lap.

"See that, baby? You're gonna see crazy people do dumb stuff."

Jack barked a very loud laugh when Kanan held up a puce shirt. "Kanan, when I said we needed to get you in some other colors? I did not friggin' mean that one!"

Oh, man. Was Summer being a total dork right now by actually being really excited about being able to participate in these this year? Regularly, anyway. She'd managed to make it to a few of them last year, when it was hilariously convenient for her to do so, but this was clearly different.

Whatever. She'd go ahead and be stoked. And hope that she hadn't just gotten all the good ones when most of them actually kind of suuuucked, or something.

Carter had been holed up in his church for... well, quite longer than he'd expected to be, but that was how it went, wasn't it, one day blending into the other and there was always something to do and fix and he'd not lacked for things to do, but the day had drawn him out...

And signing up for something rather a little ridiculous, but almost like a festival, had seemed only right, after months of talking to very few people at all.

He nibbled on some chips while wondering what the day would have in store for them all.

There are three teams today, with matching t-shirts given out so you can recognize each other.

The colors are chartreuse, puce, and cantaloupe because Anakin wasn't paying more for the good colors, okay.

With pale skin and red hair, it was...not a great look.

"You know what," Peebee said, sighing, "I like to think I can make any color look good, but apparently I blocked the existence of this color from my mind."

She pulled it on anyway, but not without setting her purple jacket aside first. That jacket didn't need to be subjected to the indignity of being paired with this thing.

Mae tugged on her orange shirt, the collar stretching as she yanked it down over her rather large head.

"Huh. Not bad." She dug a magic marker out of her pocket and drew a little skull and crossbones on her chest. "There. Now it's awesome."

The skull had cat ears, yes.

And then immediately started picking at the sleeves a little, wondering if anyone would mind or care if just just cut them off...

Iris made a bit of a face at the name they'd called her--even though it was her name--and studied her shirt.

The pale orange wasn't terrible and, given the other two options, she actually felt pretty good about wearing it.

(It did help, of course, that the colour suited her.)

LET'S RELAY

LEG 1

Heh. Literally.

The first two members of each team (Summer & Vette from Team Chartreuse, Amaya & Janet from Team Puce, and Mae & Billy from Team Cantaloupe) must tie their legs together (good thing everyone has legs!) for a three-legged race from the starting line allll the way through the park and across Apocalypse Avenue and down to the docks to high five their next teammate. Make sure the rope stays tight! If it falls off, you have to start over.

LEG 2

After being successfully high-fived, the third member of the teams (Tip, Kanan & Wayne) must successfully kayak out into the water to retrieve one of the three color-coordinated flags placed out on a buoy.

Guarded by a flock of seagulls who have no interest in giving up their new shinies. Kayak without tipping, retrieve without getting pecked or pooped up, and then return to the dock to hand the flag off to your next teammate!

LEG 3

The fourth member of the teams (Prompto, Peebee, and Sabine) must take their new flags (and the handy potato sacks also located on the dock) and hop all the way to the Perk, where they must turn in the flag in exchange for the most complicated coffee order they can make a barista concoct without being thrown out of the store.

The coffee drink must be hot.

They must then take that hot coffee all the way through town (and up all those stairs) and over to Chilly Boulder to give to their teammate!

LEG 4

Over at Chilly Boulder, your fifth teammate (Owen, Shuri, and Norman) must chug whatever godawful drink you brought them, and then make three different waffle cone sundaes, each with three scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top and give them to customers (one of which will change their minds about what they ordered at least twice.)

When they have completed the orders, take a sundae cup and run over to J,GOB and deliver that token to your next teammmate!

LEG 5

Once your teammate has delivered the sundae cup, the sixth teammate (Juillenne, Nina, and Aeryn) get to...eat an entire (smallish, but still) lemon meringue pie! With their faces.

No hands, please, ladies.

When the pie is completely gone, your final two teammates are free to start their portion!
