Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

As the picnic continued, there were tables and chairs arranged on the lawn, the food smelled delicious and inviting, and no one was going to be bitey without explicit consent. Hopefully, everyone would take some time to enjoy themselves!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Right, so. He’d slept through most of yesterday, which was frankly pretty damned unusual for him. And to be honest, he still was feeling kind of tired. And sore as hell. But the picnics were a valuable opportunity when it came to sizing up new arrivals, so he’d opted to drag himself out anyway. Unfortunately, painkillers put him in a state far beyond merely ‘loopy’, and thus not an option while out in public, so he was dealing with that by piling a plate high with all sorts of sugary pastries and the like.

Beau would have gone to try and punch him (lightly!) in the shoulder, but she figured he was still recovering and knew her ribs would make her regret it if she did, so instead she just flicked a cherry pit at him.

"Get bitten by a vampire again and I'm kicking your ass," she called out as she headed over.

Yeah, considering he’d nearly dislocated (as it was, it was definitely separated and would take at least a couple of weeks to heal) his shoulder, he appreciated that show of restraint.

“You’ll have to form a line,” he said dryly. Verity had dibs, after all.

"Yeah, yeah, I know," Beau said, and flicked another cherry pit at him. It was entirely possible she'd been saving them up all picnic for just such an occasion. "Which means I'll have to wait, so I'll be extra annoyed by the time it's finally my turn, so . . ."

And the first one, he’d been content to ignore, but that second? He was bringing up a hand to swat it away- and grimacing in pain as the motion pulled on his injured shoulder. “The concern is appreciated, though,” he said, because some people just expressed their feelings through violence. “You get to beat up any vampires?” he asked, because he fully expected she would have been out on the front lines of whatever had been going on.

Beau winced in sympathy when she caught that reaction, and surreptitiously put the third cherry pit back into her pocket.

"Yeah, it was really more of a mutual beating-up situation, but --" She tilted her head to one side, then the other. "Yeah. It was fun."

Yes, even the getting thrown into a wall. That had been a little bit awesome.

“Would’ve been right there with you, but,” a shrug of his good shoulder. “You know. Glad you had a good time, at least. Come out in one piece?”

"Yeah, there might be some differing opinions on the definition of 'one piece,' exactly, but." Beau sighed. Loudly, but there was a hint of a fond smile on her face if you knew her well enough to look for it. "I'm here, right? Nothing missing. It's cool. I'm good."

“Good,” Liam nodded. He’d caught that hint of a smile, absolutely, and offered her a little grin in reply. “I’m going to be buying a lot of cheese and cake to apologize for worrying the mice.”

Yeah. Beau knew the feeling.

"Sounds about right," she said gruffly. "But seriously, dude, can you like not do that again?"

She was glad you were back to yourself, Liam. But outright saying so was weird.
