Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

As the picnic continued, there were tables and chairs arranged on the lawn, the food smelled delicious and inviting, and no one was going to be bitey without explicit consent. Hopefully, everyone would take some time to enjoy themselves!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

And the first one, he’d been content to ignore, but that second? He was bringing up a hand to swat it away- and grimacing in pain as the motion pulled on his injured shoulder. “The concern is appreciated, though,” he said, because some people just expressed their feelings through violence. “You get to beat up any vampires?” he asked, because he fully expected she would have been out on the front lines of whatever had been going on.

Beau winced in sympathy when she caught that reaction, and surreptitiously put the third cherry pit back into her pocket.

"Yeah, it was really more of a mutual beating-up situation, but --" She tilted her head to one side, then the other. "Yeah. It was fun."

Yes, even the getting thrown into a wall. That had been a little bit awesome.

“Would’ve been right there with you, but,” a shrug of his good shoulder. “You know. Glad you had a good time, at least. Come out in one piece?”

"Yeah, there might be some differing opinions on the definition of 'one piece,' exactly, but." Beau sighed. Loudly, but there was a hint of a fond smile on her face if you knew her well enough to look for it. "I'm here, right? Nothing missing. It's cool. I'm good."

“Good,” Liam nodded. He’d caught that hint of a smile, absolutely, and offered her a little grin in reply. “I’m going to be buying a lot of cheese and cake to apologize for worrying the mice.”

"They let you hear the end of it yet?" Beau wondered. "Or was there a big welcome back ceremony for you?"

“Little of Column A, little of Column B,” Liam shrugged. And then instantly regretted that.

Yeah. Beau knew the feeling.

"Sounds about right," she said gruffly. "But seriously, dude, can you like not do that again?"

She was glad you were back to yourself, Liam. But outright saying so was weird.

“It’s not on my list of things I want to experience again,” Liam assured her. “Reminded me too much of-“ he broke off, realizing he’d said a little too much.

Beau's eyebrows twitched upwards ever so slightly at that, but she just nodded, didn't press the subject. "Some shit's just not worth a second try," she said instead.

She'd probably ask him what he'd been talking about someday, but not now, and definitely not in the middle of all these people.

Yeah, that was exactly why Liam had stopped himself from blurting out something that he might be obligated to explain. “Wanna tell that to Verity, too?” Liam asked. “She’s managed to get kidnapped twice, and I am not a fan of that.”

"What am I, your messenger service?" Beau wasn't actually complaining, as much as she glowered at him when she said it. "Maybe you can get that engraved on a plaque or something, put it up right where you can see it every time you leave the house. Just make sure I get credit for saying it."

Liam snickered. “Trust me, I’ve already let her know just how much a fan I’m not of her getting kidnapped. But it clearly didn’t take the first time, so I figure the more people who remind her how terrible of an idea it is, the better.”

"Ehhhhhhhhhh." Beau scrunched her face up and shook her head. "People have been telling me not to do dumb shit for years, and I haven't listened yet, I'm just saying. Fine, whatever, you want me to back you up on this, I can do that."

“It’s not as if I’m trying to be That Guy who thinks his girlfriend shouldn’t be out throwing knives at people who deserve to have knives thrown at them,” Liam argued. He scrubbed at the spot on his neck where the vampire had bitten it a few days ago. “Hell, you know she promised me that she’d introduce the asshole that bit me to all of her knives? Alphabetically?” He added, pride clear in his voice.

"I saw her," Beau said, grinning. "She was on the team with me, and she looked badass, dude. Kinda sorry I missed the stabby show, though, after that asshole threw me into a wall."

“Ah,” Liam nodded knowingly. “That’s where the differing opinions regarding ‘one piece’ come in to play, then?”

His free hand, the one not holding a plate full of sugary baked goods, twitched just a little as he bit back the urge to ask her if she wanted him to heal that. Once again it came down to the fact that there were too many people around for that to be a good idea.

"Yep, pretty much." Beau rolled her eyes, and there was that flash of fondness again. "Somebody thinks I should still be in bed and, like, stay there for a while, but how boring is that, seriously? I mean, I even went to the clinic and everything, that's more than enough, right?"

“I slept through most of yesterday,” Liam shared, making a face. Considering he usually only needed about three hours a night, that was saying something.

... Truth be told, he was probably going to crash again in a few hours. The vampire thing had kind of taken a lot out of him.

"Yeah, I'm exhausted just hearing you say that," Beau informed him.

“And I’m probably gonna have to skip out on sparring for a couple weeks,” he added, expression getting even grumpier.

"Aw, damn it." Beau had not considered that particular ramification. (It was possible she'd been tuning the doctor out by the end of her clinic visit, yes.) She glanced one way and then the other, grimacing.

". . . I mean, I won't tell if you won't. Maybe I can threaten the squirrels too?"

Because oh hell no, she could not be expected to go any extended period of time without at least getting a decent spar in.

“On the one hand, tempting,” Liam admitted. “On the other... i don’t know if I would want to risk making anything worse for either of us.” Plus like, you may be slightly loopy on painkillers right now, Beau, but at least you could take them and still be fit to go out in public.

"Liam." Beau was definitely whining a little bit there. "I am going to go out of my fucking mind with boredom."

“How are you at games?” he wondered. “I could teach you fuv’la’sha?”
