Ballet for Beginners; First Period [03/01].

Rosa was by the stereo again this week when class started; she didn't look frustrated enough to try smashing it on the floor like she had the other week, but she was clearly irritated with it enough to give it a few futile smacks. It would seem that, no matter what she tried, no matter what she wanted to play for music that day, the only thing the stereo wanted to play was some instrumental Icelandic folk music. Which...at least it wasn't just one part of an annoying song repeated over and over again, but really? Really? A little on-the-nose there, don't you think?

"Whatever," she finally said, a few minutes into when class was supposed to start anyway, giving it one last smack and a kick when she stood up, but then turning to the students and leaving it as a lost cause. "It works. Find a spot for warm-ups. I hope you guys remembered stuff, because it's review day. I know. I bet you're all real excited for it, too."

They'll be taking extra time for warm-ups and stretches this week, since it's been a while, and, since apparently it's a thing now, there's a little bit of some ballet to watch while you do it. She decided to go with something that was...super ballet-y in an effort to get the class (and herself) a bit more in the mood for the class.

Ready to see how well you've retained everything in the class so far after essentially two weeks off? Starting with the barre basics that they should be able to do in their sleep by now, even with the break, and battements, then off to the center for a review of basic center work.

Then across the floor to revisit chaîné turns. Remembering to spot your enemy! And then finishing in the center of the floor with some piroettes. Remembering to mind your...head things, everyone.

And, of course, the cool down was important, too, and where Rosa could sneak in her little warning about next week. "With the exception of the barre work, which you'll never escape and we'll still do every single week, don't expect a whole lot of review over any of this stuff again. Practice on your own time, because next week, I'm going to start throwing some actual choreography at you."

She'd be reluctant to admit it, but they'd been doing pretty good so far. Still, she hoped it would at least be a little disasterous now that they were past the easy stuff.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, if you'd got to, she's there and available.
