Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The lawn was arranged with tables and chairs - some near the food, some not - and there was plenty of food to go around. The school had even wised up and put to-go boxes by the plates, so people didn't have to put food in their pockets to take it with them for later. No one was gonna judge you for making some pocket bacon, but at least now it wasn't a necessity.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Sparkle shrugged. And then made a so-so gesture with his hand. And then nodded his head. And just held out both of his hands and continued nodding.

"And," he offered, "he's the dean."

Sparkle would never, ever deny that he often came from a place of deep bias and long-held grudges.

". . . Yeah, that scans," Mae decided. "People in power are usually dicks."

This kid was smart and Sparkle approved.

"Goes right to their heads," he agreed. "Every single time."

"That's why I plan never to be in charge of anything."

"Solid life choice," Sparkle replied, nodding solemnly. "It's way easier that way, trust me."

"Don't you run a store?"

"Yyyyyyyyyyyup," Sparkle agreed, popping that 'p' sound and then shrugging his shoulders. "Which sounds like it's all fun and games right up until you have to argue with the insurance company about whether or not falling sharks constitute an act of god. Fuck store ownership anyway."

... But also it was his and he was never letting it go. So.

"There's a whole . . . shark theme to this place, isn't there."

"It's rained them fucking twice," Sparkle bitched. "My heart wants to say no, but the weather says yes."

"Also, there's the giant shark guy."

"Also, there's the giant shark guy," Sparkle agreed, smirking. "Who is fucking adorable when he wants to surprise his girl with clothes, let me tell you."

Because he didn't wear any himself, and so he was kind of a lost cause.

"So he's a good giant shark guy, at least."

"He thought maybe I was his new little sister. I'm not, but he seemed friendly enough anyway."

Even if he did seem to think Baltimore would be too racist for her.

"Huh. I guess from that high up, maybe everybody just kind of looks the same," Sparkle offered.

It was a weird mistake to make. Unless you knew the name of the girl he'd actually been looking for, anyway.

Really? Mae didn't think she looked like a "Kat" at all.

"I didn't have my name tag on. It was a valid question."

"Fair enough," replied Sparkle, who really hadn't managed to get the names of all the students out there yet, and wouldn't be able to guess about it anyway. "Well, he must've gotten it sorted out, then. Your actual sibling assignment give you the run-down about this place?"

"I guess? I wouldn't know if she didn't."

... She had a point, there.

"Alternate realities, different worlds, occasional monster attacks, or 'brace yourself for the occasional weekend spent as somebody else' ring any bells?"

"What do you mean someone else?"

"Oh, you know... someone who isn't you with your name, or maybe a face that looks a lot like yours, or who sounds like you." A pause. "I was a pegasus named Sparkleface once. That was a fucking trip."

Mae just kind of stared at him for a long moment.

"You all got the bad drugs in this town, huh."

"I wish," Sparkle muttered. "Maybe it'd be a little more fun around here between bouts of weirdness if we did."

"In my experience, if people want bad drugs, they're gonna find them," Mae pointed out.

Usually by making them.

"Yeah," Sparkle replied. "Trust me, I know. These days I'm more the 'legal in Canada' sort, though."

People would pry his weed from his cold, dead fingers. Also, shut up.

"Yeah . . . I don't really do that stuff, either."

Mae's mind didn't need any extra altering, thanks.

"And you don't have to," Sparkle replied. "Isn't like it's in the water or anything."

Occasionally it was in the air, but that was something else entirely.
