"Hello again," Anakin said from the front of the class.

Aphra waved at them. "So we realised we never did introductions last week." Because you derailed the conversation, Dr I-used-to-work-for-Darth-Vader.

Details! "And we could probably figure it out eventually," Anakin said, "but this seems more expedient. So today, you give us your name, and then two truths and a lie about yourself. And we'll all try to guess the lie."

"For example, I'm a rogue archeologist, I once defeated an insane immortal Jedi, and I think Skywalker's hair looks great." Aphra trusted that everyone would be able to pick up on the blatant, completely unbelievable lie about Anakin's hair.

Anakin's glare said that he didn't need the Jedi mind-reading skills to know which was her lie. "I'm a Jedi, I have five children, and I've been teaching here since 2007," he said, making all the muns feel ancient.

He pointed at the person least likely to be paying attention at the moment. "You. Go."

"How old were you when you got married?" Anakin asked.

"I was twelve. Been married three years now. But..." she blushed. "I ain't - John said he'd wait till I was fifteen before I have to... you know."

"And how old is John?" Anakin asked carefully.

"I don't rightly know," Nell said. "Round 'bout 55 or 60 maybe?"

Anakin didn't make an ew face, but it was a close thing. "How did you meet him?"

"He saved me," Nell said plainly. "My family was gonna marry me off - sell me off really - to the Colonel, a nasty old church elder. John and Leah offered to marry me so I'd be safe. Even moved right out of the church complex to keep me safe."

There was a lot more to that story that John had kept from her, but it would be a while before Nell found out.

Anakin had a lot of Feelings about slavery, go figure.

"Even if he saved you, and even if you're married, you never, ever have to feel obligated to sleep with him," he said.

Nell didn't even know how to respond to that. A man telling her she didn't need to...? With her husband?

"I think the church an my husband might disagree with you. And if he doesn't keep me," Nell swallowed hard. "That colonel might just get me and he won't give me any choice. I think I'm safer with John."

Anakin's heart broke just a little bit for this kid. "Did John know you were coming here?"

It took all Nell had not to cry and her eyes might have filled a little. "No. I just showed up here out of nowhere. He doesn't know nothing and Leah just died a little while ago, so he's alone and he'll worry or maybe be mad and... it's just all a mess."

Anakin, even after four kids and two little ones that he was actually helping to raise, was not great with tears. He flailed a little internally.

"He seems very understanding, from what you've told me?" he offered.

"Not... much," Nell admitted. "But he's never treated me mean."

He wasn't really unkind to her, but then she didn't expect kindness from a man.
