Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone had been keeping a close eye on the weather, and gave a sigh of relief as it turned out to be a pretty decent day. Sure, it was still a little warm, but it wasn't humid, or raining something strange. You had to take your wins where you could get them around here.

As usual, there was a buffet of food awaiting the folks on the welcome shuttle, and blue and gold tables and chairs were set up across the lawn, most still covered in glitter from the last picnic. Sorry ~~not~~! Happy picnic day!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Right?" Magnus asked. "I mean, sometimes it works for the best. Like this one time we were at Chaos Stadium in Neverwinter? You know, Fantasy Wrestlemania?"

Yeah. You knew that one, right?

"Ah... I don't," Fjord said, but held up a hand and gestured for Magnus to continue anyway, "but do go on."

His world had its own fair share of Fantasy Callouts, that part wasn't weird.

Then he didn't know about... I'Morko. This was narrative, so there wasn't a guitar sting, but the narrative wanted you to think about it being there anyway.

"So, we were there to help keep Jess the Beheader alive and ended up fighting some banished Eldritch god whose name I think was Gary or something? And to fight him we had to be nice and compliment each other. So, the Zone of Truth helped there. Also got us an invite to Fantasy Aspen."

"This, ah, this eldritch god was sensitve to... niceness?"

See, Fjord was curious, here. No reason. Especially none that would have anything even a little bit to do with a pact he might possibly have made with a lurking eldritch horror from the briny deeps.

Honest.

"Uh huh!" Just wait until he fought against the personification of nihilism! Then he'd have advice for Fjord on the matter. "Was not a big fan. Kind of a tool too. Picked on this kid that we all sort of adopted."

"Well, he sounds like an all-around unpleasant fella," Fjord decided. Apparently embracing understatement today. "Good to hear you gave him hell."

Look, he was terrible with children, but protective of them all the same.

"But other gods are pretty okay," Magnus added in case Fjord was thinking they weren't. "Pan's an okay dude. Istus gave me a sweet spear."

"A god gave you a weapon? Is she some kind of patron, then?"

God, Fjord. Be more blundering baby warlock, why don't you.

"I mean? I guess?" He was fuzzy on the rules there too. Not being a big ol' magic boy and all. "She's not my divine sugar mama at least."

"That's, uh... good." Fjord had no idea if it was good or not. "At least it's a good spear?"

Fjord had gotten a sword. Also neat. Way less sugar mama involved.

Awww. Now Magnus was sad to not get a sword from Istus.

"Super good. It comes back when I call for it!"

Like Lassie.

"That's... actually quite the useful trick," Fjord noted. "Having a weapon that comes when you call."

Fjord was a damn hexblade. He was speaking from (admittedly limited) experience.

"Wanna see it?" Magnus, no. Not at the picnic.

"You know, I actually kind of do?"

Fjord. Fjord, you had spent a few days traveling with Jester, you knew by now that questions like that were a trap.

"I don't normally just whip it on out but--" OH C'MON.

He turned a little to dig through his entire inventory, which he had with him all the time unless Griffin was being a butt about those things. And then produced a long spear that had the look of a ornate minute hand from an old fashioned clock.

For what it was worth, the comment did get one of those grinning-but-trying-not-to-grin grins out of Fjord, the sort that mostly consisted of one corner of his mouth pulling up and his tongue tucked in the other cheek so that he could bite it to refrain from making a comment of his own.

Of course, once Magnus had whipped it out, Fjord gave it an interested once-over.

"Well, would you look at that? I don't think I've ever seen a spear quite as ornate as that one."

Said the guy who could summon a magical dripping ocean sword that ate other swords.

Please don't eat the game breaking Flaming, Raging, Poisoning Sword of Doom. Taako would kill him!

"I used it to pop some time bubbles."

But it would make for a really, really rad falchion.

"Like taking a needle to a balloon, huh?" Fjord grinned a little. "Sounds like fun."

Sounded effective!

No! Bad, Fjord sword. Bad.

"Hell yeah," he said, holding up a hand for a high-five.

"Hell yeah," Fjord agreed, absolutely going for that high five.

Because hell yeah, that's why.
