Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone had been keeping a close eye on the weather, and gave a sigh of relief as it turned out to be a pretty decent day. Sure, it was still a little warm, but it wasn't humid, or raining something strange. You had to take your wins where you could get them around here.

As usual, there was a buffet of food awaiting the folks on the welcome shuttle, and blue and gold tables and chairs were set up across the lawn, most still covered in glitter from the last picnic. Sorry not! Happy picnic day!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I've got this!" Zack smiled faintly, and then broke into a little laugh. "I'm glad you've got faith in me. At this point I'm mostly just wondering how many weeks I can get away with dumping an armload of puppies on the students and then running for cover."

Ino laughed.

"At least a couple of weeks, with a distraction as good as that," she admitted. "But wouldn't you at least want to stay around with the puppies and make some friends with the students?"

Zack smiled a little bit more at that.

"I mean, of course," he replied, nodding. "It's hard to make friends if I turn around and run. This is all still pretty... big."

From hiding in the apartment for months on end to teaching a class. He'd done a lot of healing since coming back to the island.

"I'm proud of you," she said, her voice a little quieter. "And, maybe, for the first few weeks don't think 'bout it as teaching so much as introducing your furry friends to your new teenage friends. That don't sound nearly so intimidating, right?"

"That does sound way better," Zack admitted, tapping a finger thoughtfully against his chin. "They're all pretty great, this class would probably basically teach itself anyway, right?"

"A bit," she said, "but it does need someone there who knows what they're doing with the animals. 'Cause what if the animals get scared?"

"I have the vet helping me pick ones that are a little better socialized," Zack offered. "But sticking around to keep students from handling them too rough or something can't hurt..."

"Hey, even the best socialized ones get scared sometimes, right?" she said, smiling. "And you're one of the most reassuring presences I know..."

Ino was a smidgen biased.

Just for that, Zack was leaning forward to sneak a kiss.

"Well, then I guess I'm going to have to do everything I can to stay calming, huh?"

"Oh, definitely," she said, eyes bright. "Absolutely."
