The Library is Open (03/24)

Rory situated herself behind the desk and became deeply absorbed in a well-worn copy of To Kill a Mockingbird.

[*cries at LJ* So sorry for the delay, people. For some reason, LJ hates my OCD and kept eating my comments. Hence why there is no lunchtime in the library today, unless I manage to fix it somehow.]

"Erm, good day?" Cally has to hear about this. "You, uhhh, want to talk about it?"

Faced with someone who doesn't know the backstory, Parker doesn't know how to start to explain. She turns bright red, and then just blurts, "There's a guy."

"Ooooh." Cally smirks. "Is he cute?"

"He's gorgeous." Spin! "And a genius." Spin! "And nice." Parker stopped spinning to catch her breath. "And crazy, crazy, crazy, 'cause he loves me."

She's not getting over that any time soon.

Cally grins. "He told you he loved you, didn't he? Awwww."

Big, big smile. Teeny nod. Spiiiiin!

"Were you this spastic when you and Anders got together? 'Cause if so, I totally missed it."

"Well not, like, this spastic," Cally says with a nod. "But yeah. There was definitely a little spasticality."

Parker paused, thinking about that, then calmed a little and said, "Part of it is relief. I didn't think he liked me like that. And then he said... what he said."

Floaty, happy, dizzy-- spinnnn!

"Okay, is it anyone I know?" Cally scratches behind an ear. "Because I totally haven't seen you with, like, anyone."

"Jarod? One of the bartenders at Caritas? You might have seen him at my birthday party." Parker grinned. "We've been friends since we were little kids. This is just -- new."

"Oh, no wonder you're so spastic. Friends forever and then whammo, love time? That's great." Cally grins again. "So, when's your first big big date?"

Parker smiled, eyes sparkling. "Not sure, he has to work tonight, so not then. But tomorrow, maybe? He has the day off. I have a project to work on with Anakin for ACJ, I figure I'll go over to Jarod's place as soon as it's done."

She grinned, hugging herself, calming down a little. "What did you guys do on your first date? I've just been hanging out with him until now. I don't want to put any pressure on him, it's not like he's got as much money as I do."

"We went to the Perk, talked, laughed, and then went out onto the beach and walked, and talked and laughed and stuff. Oh! And we built sand castles. Or, erm, talked about building them. And then we crashed in Anders' room and, like fell asleep. All nice and cuddly and everything." Cally sighs happily. "It was great."

All of which she'd done so far with Jarod. So maybe there was no reason to be nervous, or worried that it would be weird when she saw him tomorrow. "I'm happy for you." Which wasn't something she'd have thought of saying before. "Really." Parker hugged herself. "It's... weird, for me."

"What, the whole love thing?" Cally chews her lower lip for a second.

Parker nodded. "There've been guys before, guys I liked a lot, don't get me wrong. But this is just wildly, incredibly ... different."

"I guess I was lucky, I guess," Cally shrugs. "There really kinda wasn't anyone other than Anders. I mean, there was the crush on Cam, but other than that I was totally not with the feelings for guys."

Parker spun herself off her chair, then shook her head. "Take it from someone who thought she couldn't be surprised. It's a whole different planet, when it feels like this." She grinned. "Um. Thanks for asking, by the way. I'm a little silly today."

"I know the whole different planet thing," Cally says with a little chuckle. "I'm just glad to find out you're not, like, on drugs or under evil alien control or something. You seemed a little different, that's all."

Parker held out her arms at her sides, and shrugged. "This is what happy looks like on me. Note it for future reference." She laughed a little.

Cally opens up her own arms. "Does this mean I get to hug you?"

Parker rolled her eyes, then smiled wider. "Just 'cause today's the day for it."

Cally hops over and gives Parker a great big hug. "I'm happy for you, too, ya know. I kinda like you like this. A lot."

"Thanks." Parker endured the hug, and even returned it. Then she pulled away. "And don't be surprised if I'm not like this again soon."

Cally shrugs. "Okie-doke. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts." Cally gives a little wave. "But I should probably go track down that book I was after, actually."
