Summer Games: Wednesday, The Park [morning]

"Good morning!" Anakin yelled into the megaphone from the small platform he had erected in the park. "Students, please listen for your names and find your partner or partners as your name is called: Sidon and Aloy; Jason and Rey; Bobby and Paris; Ahsoka and Uma; Theron and Peridot; Astrid and Norman; Tip, Sabine and Beaker."

Once the students were in place, Anakin held up a sheaf of paper in his hand. "Today, with the help of the proprietors in town, we're conducting a Scavenger Hunt. You have a very long list: You must find 15 of the items from that list and either take a picture or video of yourselves completing the tasks. Whoever completes their 15 in the shortest amount of time will win the coveted, terrifying, singing fish," he said, holding his hand out for it to fly to him. It was still shrieking Sabotage as it flew, but now it also rained confetti on anyone close enough to be in its flight path. As Anakin held it, it treated the entire group to holographic footage of Theron being chased by a Roomba.

You're welcome, Theron.

"Right," Anakin said slowly. "Someone come take this thing from me as quickly as possible. On your marks, get set, go."

"Meep," Beaker said eagerly, hauling himself into the chair.

Hannibal shook his head but took it, set it up to record, and placed it on the tripod.

"So," he started, "tell me about your mother." Because he thought he was hysterical. Also because there wasn't much point in asking specific questions if he wouldn't understand the answers.

And Hannibal would let it. And try to decipher some actual meaning in it. There was, at least, feeling there, if he couldn't understand the language.

Also, the boy could clearly talk. And was no more boring than some of the upper-class idiots Hannibal had listened to in his time.

Once he petered out, though, Hannibal decided that if they were to get three questions out, he should probably ask less open-ended ones.

"You're here for the scavenger hunt?"

Beaker pointed to his green nail polished...entire hand...and launched on an explanation.

Hannibal was amused; he would clearly have to ask Sparkle about that later. And maybe compare his description to the meeps on his office tapes to see if he could work out some basics of this language.

For now, though, he nodded cordially, handed the student back his camera, wondered idly what he might taste of (he smelled partly of chemicals and char, actually), and said, "Congratulations. I believe you've completed another item."
