Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was lovely, the newbies had survived their shuttle, and yes, all the holes in the lawn from graduation had been filled and covered with new grass so everything looked normal and pretty. Well, pretty, at least.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Huh. The Mandalorian was younger than she was. Not, Hera was aware, that that meant she was any less dangerous, but still. And she was a lot more colorful than most.

Well, what the heck. Nothing was likely to happen here, and if the girl was likely to be trouble, best to know about it beforehand.

Hera went over and stuck out her hand. "Hera. Hi."

She'd leave out her last name just in case, though.

The offered hand was definitely unexpected, but Sabine shook it, just a little warily.

"Sabine," she said. "Didn't expect to see a Twi'lek all the way out here."

"That's okay," Hera said, "I didn't expect to see a Mandalorian, either. There's a few folks from our galaxy floating around, though I don't think we're all from the same point in time."

She hesitated. "Does that sound really weird, or do you know about this place already?"

"I know some things," Sabine shrugged. "The part about different points in time is new, but that makes about as much sense as anything else."

It helped that her days spent hopping around the multiverse against her will meant she walked into this place knowing it wasn't going to be normal.

"Okay, good." Hera nodded. "Do you mind if I ask when you're from? The armor's kind of obvious, but you're a lot more colorful than the Mandalorians I've seen before."

Usually from a very safe distance.

Sabine gave the year, a few years ahead of where Hera would be, and added, "The colors aren't a Mandalorian thing. That's all me."

"Oh! That's about when I'm from, then," Hera said. "You're just a little in my future."

It was so, so tempting to ask questions. But she probably didn't want to know the answers.

"You like colors?" she asked instead.

"No, not at all," Sabine said dryly, a little amused.

Her hair wasn't naturally pink and blue. Though it'd be fun if it was.

Hey, Hera'd apparently had a kid with natural green hair; who knew, in their galaxy?

"Okay, silly question," she acknowledged. "So let me guess - you heard this place was colorful and couldn't resist? Because it definitely is, but not in that way. Usually."

Sabine sighed. "Portalocity messed up and sent me here, and when I got here, my name was on a list and I got a roommate. But I'm fixing it, and then I'm going back."

If she kept saying that, maybe it'd be true!

"Huh. My friend Kanan had a hard time getting back for a year or so," Hera said, "but it's been fine since they cleared the mynocks out of the system. My advice? Just play along until they figure it out."

She wasn't unsympathetic, but there wasn't much she could do about it, either. Unless Sabine wanted to go back in time a few years, but Hera didn't know her well enough to suggest that yet.

"I won't say don't hope," Hera said, "but maybe don't hold your breath? And anyway, just know you're not alone, and they probably will fix it eventually."
