Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was lovely, the newbies had survived their shuttle, and yes, all the holes in the lawn from graduation had been filled and covered with new grass so everything looked normal and pretty. Well, pretty, at least.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Brought your own food along with you again, Doctor?" Amaya couldn't help noting it with an amused grin. She remembered that all too well from last time, and it was an interesting enough quirk. And, if she remembered properly, she couldn't really blame him, they'd been good, but she was hardly picky. In fact, she was working on a leg of some meat on the bone that she didn't entirely know what it was, but she didn't seem to mind not knowing, anyway.

Sometimes, it was better not to know.

"Always." Hannibal gave her a smile and a bow. "How have you been, Ms Blackstone?"

"Oh, about as good as can be expected," Amaya responded, dipping her head a little and smirking for the bow, "which is to say, pretty good. 'Bout ready to get this summer thing started; I've got a real great project for my students that I can't wait to sink some nails into, and then the forge should be ready to open in autumn."

And, zounds, did it feel good to say that!

"What's on your plate this time around?"

Pun intended? Maaaaaybe.

Pun appreciated, anyway. Hannibal smiled at it.

"This term, I'm working through the community center. Each week we will visit a different region of the world and eat its food. Can I hope to see you drop by for a class or two?"

"Yeah, I saw that!" Amaya remarked. "I was just talking with someone about that class the other day. I think, for the most part, I'll have to pass on that. I'll leave the fancy eats to the people who can actually appreciate 'em."

Throw a word like gourmet around, Amaya'd likely just avoid it like the plague.

"You should try it; you might be surprised," Hannibal said. "But the class, such as it is, is less about the values of 'fancy' food and more about learning different sorts of flavors and cooking."

And that was a very hesitant look on Amaya's face, mixed with a tough of skepticism. Maybe if they considered meat a flavor on its own, and someone else was doing the cooking, and even then...

But still. "Maybe," she allowed. "How about you let me know if you've got a particularly interesting class planned and I'll think about dropping in. Something like, say..." She rubbed her chin in thought before an idea struck her. "A study on various types of meats on sticks."

She could be down for a meat-on-sticks class.

Some people made Hannibal despair of their palates. Not that he wasn't all for meat, but it did need some flavoring and accompaniments.
