Library, Wednesday

It was just a normal day in the library. No book shenanigans. No gremlin shenanigans. No missing ladders. No anything.

Just Peridot, putting books back on the shelves, organizing things, cleaning up. Like a nice, normal library shift.

It was really, really weird.

"Don't you ever worry about, I don't know, them turning on you?" Summer asked. "I've been able to avoid them so far, but I just don't feel like I'd be able to trust them further than I could throw them. Then again, I guess it's like radio squirrels. Shady little bastards, but if you give 'em booze every once in a while, you can usually stay on their good sides."

Peridot shrugged.

"What could they do to me if they turned on me, really?"

"Well, you know what they do, they could gang up on you and bi--"

And that's when Summer's brain caught up with her and supplied an idea of what biting Peridot would actually be like.

"Er, or, you know, you're pretty little, they could swarm you and try to throw you off a cli--"

And then she wondered what would happen to Peridot if thrown off a cliff. She would probably weather it a lot better than her own squishy human body would.

"Um, portals. I'm sure they could finangle a portal that would dump you a pit of molten lava or something. Or turn one of your own inventions against you. Or what if they tried to get to you through your friends? Or Pumpkin?"

Okay, now this was just getting macabre, as she was picturing a gremlin made Pumpkin pumpkin pie...

"Peridotite forms in lava," Peridot replied with a little smile. "So far they haven't had any luck figuring out how my inventions work, and if they went after my friends, if they went after Pumpkin, they know I would crush them."

That was said with a sort of casual simplicity that suggested that not only did she believe she could, but she probably wouldn't think anything of it as she did so.

Homeworld bred ruthlessness.
