Friendship and Stabbing: an Adventurer's Guide, Thursday

There was an obstacle course set up for the class today. Because nothing taught team-building quite like blatantly copying something Magnus went through on a corporate retreat and promptly disregarded.

"Okay, so you all have gear. Or not. Maybe you left them at home, I can't make those choices for you," Magnus said, frowning because people who didn't bring their entire inventory everywhere with them were weird.

"Hopefully you at least brought something today, because it might be your hardest yet." Mainly because it involved trust. Look, Cara had issues there.

...don't make him get punched trying to hug you, Cara.

"So, the idea is that you all work together as a team to get through this without leaving a man, elf, or dwarf behind. But you can probably leave a bard behind if you wanted to." He was pretty sure none of the kids were bards.

If they were, they should have been reconsidering their life choices. "So it's probably not a good idea to try singing encouragement."

"Unless it heals or buffs. Only then," Magnus added. "So, uh... good luck and we'll see you at the end of the road." Your teachers would def be at the end, drinking fancy drinks and enjoying the show.

"You'll need it." Clearly Cara was only being ominous because of that trust thing. Yep.

Uma looked at Khadgar, surprised. The thought of asking for or offering help had literally not crossed her mind.

"You--You would?" she asked, stumbling.

Meanwhile, not offering help hadn't even occurred to Khadgar. "Sure. It would make it so if you accidentally let go, you'd fall much slower, and be light as a feather," he said with a grin. "You might even be able to grab onto the wall again, maybe. I have to admit, I don't have a lot of experience with these sorts of things."

"The wall or the spell?" Uma asked, trying to figure out if she was being set up to be somebody else's sucker.

"The wall. I'm very experienced with spells, I assure you," Khadgar said, trying to give her a friendly look. "I can cast it on myself first to show you?"

The friendly look just perplexed Uma further. Why was everyone here so nice? It was inexplicable.

"Sure," she said. "And if it works, I guess I can help you over the wall. That's the stuff I'm used to. Spells are kind of...newer."

Her hand unconsciously went to her mother's seashell necklace hanging at her throat.

Khadgar was still getting used to people who weren't mages being nice to him. Fandom was a seriously weird adjustment.

He took a step back and cast Slow Fall on himself, creating a light golden aura around himself. "See, totally safe. I wouldn't do anything dangerous to another student - especially not in this class, it might give them ideas," he said, motioning to Magnus and Cara.

Uma glanced over to where Magnus and Cara were looking especially untrustworthy. She didn't really buy the 'wouldn't do anything dangerous to another student' thing, but working together against the teachers? Why, that was something right out of Serpent Prep!

"That's a good point," she said with a nod. "They don't need the help. You make it so I don't get hurt if I fall, and I'll show you how to climb it."
