Friendship and Stabbing: an Adventurer's Guide, Thursday

There was an obstacle course set up for the class today. Because nothing taught team-building quite like blatantly copying something Magnus went through on a corporate retreat and promptly disregarded.

"Okay, so you all have gear. Or not. Maybe you left them at home, I can't make those choices for you," Magnus said, frowning because people who didn't bring their entire inventory everywhere with them were weird.

"Hopefully you at least brought something today, because it might be your hardest yet." Mainly because it involved trust. Look, Cara had issues there.

...don't make him get punched trying to hug you, Cara.

"So, the idea is that you all work together as a team to get through this without leaving a man, elf, or dwarf behind. But you can probably leave a bard behind if you wanted to." He was pretty sure none of the kids were bards.

If they were, they should have been reconsidering their life choices. "So it's probably not a good idea to try singing encouragement."

"Unless it heals or buffs. Only then," Magnus added. "So, uh... good luck and we'll see you at the end of the road." Your teachers would def be at the end, drinking fancy drinks and enjoying the show.

"You'll need it." Clearly Cara was only being ominous because of that trust thing. Yep.

A lifetime of having to weave between drunks while carrying plates of wet rot and gloop to tables had prepared Uma for this. She just ran over the planks and didn't look down, trusting in her balance to keep her upright.

Yeah, this was a basic training back at Signal, and Yang didn't even feel the need to use her gauntlets. She took off at a run along the planks, occasionally jumping corners to hit the next beam running.

Khadgar was tempted to use magic, but he was also kind of curious to see if he could get across without trouble. Some jumps and un-singed robes later, he was very excited to have crossed the planks.

Well, this didn't remind Ahsoka of anything, really.

She lightly dashed along the planks, sometimes leapign from peg to peg.

Summer had a kick-ass helm that said nice things about her when she wore it that looked ridiculous in any other context. So, yeah, she was totally wearing it with her to class. And she'd also made good on making matching armor, and was wearing that to class, too, because where the hell else would she wear it? It wasn't very effective armor, but it looked pretty damn good (the helm had said so!). She'd made armor in less convenient conditions than Fandom High, so she was pretty confident she'd done a good job.

However, armor, ineffective as it was, was kind of a hindrance in an obstacle course, and Summer started to doubt her decisions.

Luckily, a childhood of fake The Floor is Lava was proving useful even against real The Floor is Lava, as well as paying very close attention and a lot of encouraging words from her helm.

This was definitely offensive to the vertically challenged, guys.

"I could cast a spell on you that would make it far less painful if you were to fall, if that would help?" he offered.

Uma looked at Khadgar, surprised. The thought of asking for or offering help had literally not crossed her mind.

"You--You would?" she asked, stumbling.

Meanwhile, not offering help hadn't even occurred to Khadgar. "Sure. It would make it so if you accidentally let go, you'd fall much slower, and be light as a feather," he said with a grin. "You might even be able to grab onto the wall again, maybe. I have to admit, I don't have a lot of experience with these sorts of things."

The friendly look just perplexed Uma further. Why was everyone here so nice? It was inexplicable.

"Sure," she said. "And if it works, I guess I can help you over the wall. That's the stuff I'm used to. Spells are kind of...newer."

Her hand unconsciously went to her mother's seashell necklace hanging at her throat.

Khadgar was still getting used to people who weren't mages being nice to him. Fandom was a seriously weird adjustment.

He took a step back and cast Slow Fall on himself, creating a light golden aura around himself. "See, totally safe. I wouldn't do anything dangerous to another student - especially not in this class, it might give them ideas," he said, motioning to Magnus and Cara.

Uma glanced over to where Magnus and Cara were looking especially untrustworthy. She didn't really buy the 'wouldn't do anything dangerous to another student' thing, but working together against the teachers? Why, that was something right out of Serpent Prep!

"That's a good point," she said with a nod. "They don't need the help. You make it so I don't get hurt if I fall, and I'll show you how to climb it."

Don't ask how she knew that, just don't ask.

"Uuuuggghhhhh."

That should tell pretty succinctly what Summer thought of the wall climb.

But at least it wasn't a rope climb.

Did Peebee care if it was?
snipsnspecks: (A: Not the fall)

Re: The Course - Trust Falls

That kind of went against the spirit of trust falls, Peebee.

At least Ahsoka was used to being telekinetically caught, even if it usually wasn't so glowy.
