Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

There really was just no getting around the fact that it was cold outside today as Fandom welcomed its newest residents. Food? Check. Nametags and lists for people to look at for their siblings and roommates? Check. Bonfire? Definite check, it was hard to miss in the center of the lawn. Temperature away from the fire? Around 40F/5C.

At least there was a lot of warm food and chairs by the fire?

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"I bet," Norman replied with a little smile. "I imagine half of them are doing the exact same thing."

"Pretty much," Mara agreed. "I think you'll do okay. Are you all right rooming with a girl? My first roommate was a guy and it was fine."

"I... I think so? I've never really had a rommate before, ever, so if I mess up anything, it'll be less because you're a girl and more because I'm clueless, anyway. If I do anything too annoying, just let me know."

His Grandma floating into his bedroom to visit really, really didn't count as roommate experience.

"That's actually really reassuring," Norman confessed. And then paused and added, "And if you ever catch me just kind of talking to myself... um... just... let me know and I can stop if it bothers you."

Yeah, that didn't sound like a thing crazy people did at all.

And there went Norman, trying not to blush.

"It wasn't as stupid a thing to say as you think," Mara said with a tiny smile. "Your face is kind of giving you away."

"Yeah, well, my face is a traitor," Norman replied, and then sighed, and then offered Mara a little, uncertain smile. "It isn't stupid to say? Really?"
