Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

There really was just no getting around the fact that it was cold outside today as Fandom welcomed its newest residents. Food? Check. Nametags and lists for people to look at for their siblings and roommates? Check. Bonfire? Definite check, it was hard to miss in the center of the lawn. Temperature away from the fire? Around 40F/5C.

At least there was a lot of warm food and chairs by the fire?

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Man, see, if Tony were in charge of the weather, then we could just make him make it warm again," Hardison said. "Nah, it's his fault I'm out here at all, insteada makin' faces at the outdoors while remainin' inside like God meant for civilized people to do."

"Tony caught me paintin' Chrismas murals at Luke's an' suggested I teach an art class."

Where 'suggested' actually mean 'idly mentioned Hardison being an artist.'

"Yo, you can even come in if you wanna," Hardison teased. "Maybe I can rustle up a spare canvas or somethin' if you do."

"That would be wonderful," Steve said. "I learned some stuff when Nathan Algren was teaching but I haven't had too much time to sketch these days."

"I dunno if you can expect much in the way of learnin' somethin'," Hardison said quickly, toeing the ground a bit. "The only thing I was ever properly trained in was violin. Everythin' else, I just kinda picked up by doin', you know? Closest I ever got to college was goin' for a few days for a con. Mostly figured I'd just give folks a space to create an' maybe some different options for 'em to do so, an' call it good. But you're still welcome!" he hastened to add. "I just don't want you thinkin' you're gonna get some kinda great education or nothin'."

Steve gave him a grin. "I learn best by doing," he said. "I just like the idea of having time carved out for doing it."

Oh Steve. You were so good. It was almost enough for Hardison to regret what he and Tony had planned for you.

Only almost, though. There was brunch and bellinis involved.

"Well, come on over to the school Thursdays durin' third period an' there'll always be an extra spot for you," he promised.
