Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

There really was just no getting around the fact that it was cold outside today as Fandom welcomed its newest residents. Food? Check. Nametags and lists for people to look at for their siblings and roommates? Check. Bonfire? Definite check, it was hard to miss in the center of the lawn. Temperature away from the fire? Around 40F/5C.

At least there was a lot of warm food and chairs by the fire?

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Eric was peering curiously at nametags as he scanned the crowd, looking for a Molly amongst them.

And lo, a Molly was found!

Eric bounced over, picnic basket full of his usual Welcome-to-Fandom goodies in hand, smile on his face.

"Hello! I'm Eric, the school assigned me as your big sibling and-" his eyes widened as it finally dawned on him what she was wearing. Or wasn't, technically. "Oh goodness, aren't you cold?"

"Oh, no," Molly said, a little confused. "I... come from a really cold part of New Jersey. It's perfectly fine for me. Like a spring day."

She gave a sheepish smile. "I'm Molly, hi. It's nice to meet you, Eric."

Eric wasn't entirely sure that was true, about the temperature being spring-day-ish, but he was from Georgia, so he supposed it was possible. And she really didn't seem terribly bothered by it, so.

"These are for you!" he said, beaming as he handed over the basket. Inside, she'd find several mini-pies of various moddable flavors, a Fandom High Gremlins T-shirt, take-out menus for all the food places in town, and gift cards for the clothing shops.

He'd had more than a few little sibs who'd arrived with not much beyond the clothes on their back, could you tell?

"Oh, wow," Molly said, taking the basket with a big smile. "Thank you, this is a very pleasant surprise. There's so..."

She paused, looking at the gift cards with a puzzled look. She fished one out and held it up. "Pardon me, but... what are these?"

"Gift cards!" Eric said excitedly. "They're... sort of like cash, only you use them at specific locations, see?" he pointed at the names of the shops listed on each one. "They're for the clothing shops in town. Not that yours aren't perfectly fine," he added hurriedly, because they were, "But I've known plenty of people who came here rather unexpectedly, without so much of a change of clothes, so I just started including that in my welcome basket."

"If you don't think you'd find much use for them, you could always pass them on to someone who you think might need them," he added. "But they're all yours to do with as you wish."

"Well that's incredibly thoughtful, thank you," Molly said.

She got a puzzled look on her face. "How often do people go to a school without a change of clothes?"

"Distressingly often," Eric shared. "Either they're running away from something, or they ended up here rather unexpectedly."
