Student Council, Lunchtime, Friday

As promised on her announcement, when lunchtime rolled around, Zoe had things all set up for the new(ish) Student Council. There was pizza and salads for caloric balance, sodas, coffee for those who were already addicts, and some kind of variety of cupcakes that had looked especially good at JGOB.

"Hello everyone," she said, with a genuinely friendly smile as they all got settled. "Thank you all for volunteering to be part of the council this year, especially those of you coming back for another year. I'd say we're going to have a nice, peaceful year, but I feel like that might be asking for a lot."

Sorry new folks, hopefully your classes were preparing you for inevitable weirdness.

"We've got two orders of business today. First, we have to elect a president from the seniors, and then we need to talk about how we might want to entertain the people who come to visit during Parents Weekend in a few weeks."

Breq wasn't really sure what to expect, or really what the Student Council did. At least she knew everyone apart from the one called Dante. She poured herself a cup of coffee, as she hadn't tried the drink that she understood was favoured here over tea. Holding the cup in gloved hands, her face displayed nothing about her opinion of it after a first sip. It wasn't bad but she expected it was an acquired taste. She might have to get used to it.

Perhaps she would have a slice of pizza later.

"Hey Breq. I didn't know you signed up for this. Do you have an interest in politics or did it just sound interesting?"

She had quite a deadpan, if nothing else. That could probably be useful in politics.

She also had experience, sort of.

"I'm not sure what subjects are considered of interest to the Student Council," Breq said. "But I'm certain I will find something that interests me. It's good to see you here too."

She liked Tip. She would have made a great officer.

Well, she wasn't super great with hierarchies, but if they got past that, then sure!

"Last year we mostly just planned school dances," Tip admitted. "But it was still fun."

Tip was not totally just here for the pizza, but she was at least a little here for the pizza. With a touch of salad for plausible deniability.

She was also keeping an eye out for the new people. There was only one name in the announcements she didn't recognize, but that didn't mean Breq and Paris might not appreciate a heads up that this student council was pretty low key a friendly face.

"Does this mean I can tell my dad I'm being responsible?" Yang asked the room as she grabbed basically half a pizza and flopped on to a chair. She was still trying to get back all the calories she'd burned in class yesterday. "Because he might die from shock."

Yang was really good about being overprotective responsible! ...in regards to Ruby. Otherwise? Not so much.

"I mean, I won't tell him any different," Tip offered. "So I say go for it." She smiled and offered her hand. "Hi, I'm Tip. I don't think we've met yet."

"Yang," she said, giving Tip a firm handshake. "Yeah, I came in with the last batch of fresh meat."

"Thought I was coming to summer camp, ended up on a different world at school. I hear that happens a lot around here."

Probably pretty well, Tip guessed, if she was volunteering for StuCo. Though maybe she was hoping this would help get her home?

This was Eric's third year on the Student Council, which meant that there was a certain comfortable familiarity to the whole Friday meeting thing... but then, this was also his final year on said Council, as he was now a Senior. Sure, he'd done this all before, but now this would be the last time he'd do all these things! How had the time gone by so quickly?

Eric looked a little-deer-in-headlights when Zoe mentioned electing a president, but, well. Here he was! Ready to give it a shot!

"Oh gosh, you guys," he said, looking around the room. "So I'm maybe not the guy you'd turn to when you want to, say, defend the island from an invasion force. But! I like to think I'm real good at makin' people feel welcomed and included, which is kinda what Fandom is all about. You know, when the invading monsters aren't happening. So as Student Council President I would work on continuing to make sure our events are inclusive and fun! And full of glitter and delicious snacks, as those are also proud Fandom traditions."

Once the voting was over, Zoe looked to the newer students. "In a little while, we're going to invite everyone's friends and family to come and visit for the last weekend in September," she explained. "Usually, we do something on Saturday to give everyone an excuse for family bonding time, we just need to decide what we want to do this year. If you're worried about who might come to see you, this is your heads up that it's going to happen and you need to get ready."

Zoe was a fan of yanking the Band-Aid right off, sorry.

Breq had no friends or family to come and visit. She had known many people in her long life as a ship, depending on what you meant by that, but no one that would come to see her.

So there was nothing to worry about unless I decide to be mean.

"What do you usually do?" she asked.

She might mostly be looking forward to seeing J.Lo trying to bowl, yes.

Tip blinked. She was familiar with the argument against bowling shoes, but . . . she had grown up wearing second hand shoes before her family got their slush-fund. "You know they clean them, right?" She shook her head. "Plus, I bet there's stuff to do other than bowling there, too. An arcade at the very least."
