Student Council, Lunchtime, Friday

As promised on her announcement, when lunchtime rolled around, Zoe had things all set up for the new(ish) Student Council. There was pizza and salads for caloric balance, sodas, coffee for those who were already addicts, and some kind of variety of cupcakes that had looked especially good at JGOB.

"Hello everyone," she said, with a genuinely friendly smile as they all got settled. "Thank you all for volunteering to be part of the council this year, especially those of you coming back for another year. I'd say we're going to have a nice, peaceful year, but I feel like that might be asking for a lot."

Sorry new folks, hopefully your classes were preparing you for inevitable weirdness.

"We've got two orders of business today. First, we have to elect a president from the seniors, and then we need to talk about how we might want to entertain the people who come to visit during Parents Weekend in a few weeks."

Tip blinked. She was familiar with the argument against bowling shoes, but . . . she had grown up wearing second hand shoes before her family got their slush-fund. "You know they clean them, right?" She shook her head. "Plus, I bet there's stuff to do other than bowling there, too. An arcade at the very least."

Paris made another face. "Ew."

Very helpful, Paris. "Can't we just do a reception or something? Canapes, string quartet?"

Your prep school is showing, Paris.

"We're already having a welcome picnic and a Sunday brunch," Tip pointed out. "A reception with canapes just kind of sounds redundant."

"Or consistent!" Paris tried. "Find something we're good at and stick to it!"

"Not everyone likes mixers," Tip pointed out. "We're gonna get a lot of different people, so I say we should have at least a couple different activities."

J.Lo, for instance, didn't even eat human food. And there were only so many different ways Tip knew of to present dental hygiene and automotive repair supplies as appetizers and party snacks.

"Or activities that aren't really happening so we can tell our parents they wouldn't be interested anyway and should just go back to their hotels," Paris muttered.

Tip frowned. ". . . Wait, what? Why are we making things up?"

"Because my parents are not going to react well to this place," Paris hissed, "and I can't have a one-month stint at a school on my permanent record if they make me transfer! It'll make me look flaky!"

"There are going to be a lot more people here than just your parents," Tip pointed out. "I mean, I'll help you fool them if you want, but we can't plan a whole event around just pleasing them."

"Well, not just them, but I can't be the only person here with parents who will not be okay with seeing blue people wandering around," Paris said.

Tip straightened up a little. "The blue people can't help being blue," she said. "Are they going to have a problem with the brown people, too?"

"Of course not," Paris blustered. "They're used to brown people. Blue is...not usual."

You're not helping yourself at all here, Paris.

"And that's automatically bad," Tip said. "Maybe we should make sure your parents meet the blue people, so they can get over themselves."

"Maybe my parents' invite can get lost in the mail," Paris muttered.

"Great. Then you can come to bowling night."
