Political Campaigning [Tuesday, March 21, 4th period]

Josh was sitting behind his desk for all the world like he hadn't been gone for almost a month.

He gave the Campaigning class a welcoming grin when they arrived.

"Hey all," he said, checking his syllabus. "I think we're supposed to be talking about political consultants and other people you hire. It's pretty easy. Hire Bruno Gianelli. It'll cost your soul, but he's a steal at that kind of price."

He kicked his feet onto his desk. "What'd I miss?" He looked around the room. "And, um, Rory--how many days until the election?"

Rory? Kind of useless in class today.

That is, unless you're teaching a class on How to Be Absolutely Blissful and Doofy.

"Hellllllo." Parker grinned as she slid into the seat next to Rory's. "Gosh. I wonder why you're happy?"

"The Easter Bunny? St. Patrick? Oh, hey, did you know Anakin's back?" Parker's grin widened. "Wow, what a coincidence."

"He's back and he's in one piece," Rory sighed happily.

"A little tired-looking, poor guy." Parker leaned back with a smile. "He was telling me that his mentor needed rescuing. I'm glad he's okay except for that burn, at least." She tapped her lips. "Hmm. Did he bring you any prezzies? Or just his unceasing friendship on his return?"

"He's got that..." Rory traced a hand over her own cheek. "And he was shot and took a lightsaber through the thigh." She winced. "But he's back. No prezzies, but I don't care. I didn't think he was coming back, Parker. And he did. That's enough."

"I'm happy for you. Really." Parker's smile is genuine, but she can't help but tease a little more. "You had doubts? For shame, Gilmore."

"I didn't have doubts, exactly," Rory countered. "I just stopped expecting him to come back. It hurts less. And this way I'm very pleasantly surprised."

Rory eyed her. "Um, Anakin is back and alive. Very pleasantly. Why?"

Parker looked vaguely disappointed. "No smoochies? No epic romance-novel welcome? Damn. I feel cheated."

Rory glanced around, and said, "No, of course not. Just friends."

With a Look at Parker, she scribbled something on a piece of paper and passed it over.

No. There was a lot of hugging. And sleeping. He got in way early. But he's tired and hurt and I'm frankly just glad he's back.

Parker read, nodded, and then wrote, Ah. Good point. And yay, he's back!
