Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather held out nicely during the day, and while that meant some of the tables were right out in the warm sun, others had been carefully placed under some shade, and the gentle breeze had cleared at least a little of the glitter up.

It wasn't totally gone, of course. That wouldn't be any fun!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ringo hadn't exactly been avoiding Dante since he'd helped snap her back to herself? But she'd kinda been avoiding him.

So when she spotted him at the picnic she had to take a breath to screw up her courage, then put on a smile and headed over.

"Hey, Dante. How's it going?" She was going for casual. She was kind of successful?

"Pretty good," Dante said easily, though he was eyeing her curiously. "Making a quick Fandom stopover while I'm on a roadtrip."

"Ooooh, roadtrip."

She hadn't even realized he hadn't been around. She really needed to pay more attention to these things.

"Where all are you going?"

"We just hit Disneyworld and New Orleans. After that we're heading on to the Grand Canyon and then seeing if we can get to the Pacific," Dante said. He was grinning again.

Look, he was having the time of his life. For the first time in ages, it felt like everything was good.

Ringo grinned. "That sounds pretty awesome. Who did you manage to talk into joining you?"

"Anders," Dante said. "We've been talking about doing this for a while. Finally see the country, you know?"

"Yeah," Ringo nodded. "Makes sense."

She cocked her head. "What's been the best thing so far?"

Ringo was smiling, mostly because Dante seemed to be, well, happy.

"I don't know, all the little shit, I guess?" Dante said, frowning. "... Great booze in New Orleans, spotting hot princesses at Disney, you know, the works."

That was somehow a very Dante sort of answer.

"So no big impressive sights, just life?" Or something like that?

"Pretty much," Dante said. "Though it's early days. Grand Canyon's next. I could change my mind."

"That's supposed to be really big, right?"

Yes, Ringo. Yes it was.

"Kinda why they call it the Grand Canyon," Dante said, eyeing her. "I'll send you some pics when we get there."

Ringo rolled her eyes. "People call things all sorts of stuff that isn't accurate."

So, nya. Take that, Dante.

"Yeah, you're back to normal," Dante said, after a beat.

She stuck her tongue out at him, but then sort of deflated slightly at the reminder.

"Getting there," she admitted awkwardly.

She looked down at her feet glanced at him through her eyelashes. "Thanks."

Dante shrugged, grinning merrily at her. Water under the bridge and all that.

"Eh, don't mention it," he said. "Just spend your last two days of freedom on something fun, all right?"

"Pffft, I hate fun."

Dante knew that, right?

But she was grinning.

"Well, I know inline skating all over a warehouse is probably less fun when you don't have anyone to kick your ass at it," Dante said, smirking, "But I think you can make it work."

"It's called AirTrek."

"And there isn't anyone who can kick my ass at it, so I've had to make it work my whole life."

"Sure, loser," Dante said. "Whatever, just don't go back to hiding."

Her expression sobered a little bit.

"I-I'll try."

This last little bit had shaken her self-confidence.

"...Sorry," Dante said, rubbing the back of his neck. "You okay?"

She took a deep breath and blew it out.

"Getting there?" she ventured, trying for a reassuring smile.

"Just. Still not sleeping great, I guess."

"Nightmares?" Dante prompted gently.

Ringo's nod was a little choppy.

"Yeah. Not quite as often, but often enough."
