Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Thankfully, the weather on the island today was fairly nice for the tail end of December, but there was still a medium-sized bonfire going in the middle of the lawn, partly due to tradition and partly due to the potential for shirtlessness (which, Zoe supposed, was also tradition.)

The usual tables were set up with warm foods, nametags, and lists for the new and old folks to find each other. Once everything was set up, it was time to celebrate a new year and the start of a new semester!

[OCD is up! I'm consolidating this down to one post, so bring all your new and old folks over here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Please make a New Year's resolution to not break anyone's brain!

The good news was, everyone seemed to be satisfied with their roommate arrangements. But that meant there was a sign on one of the tables that simply said:

Pinkie Pie - Room 317

That room would look good covered in glitter and pink, right?

If anyone was going to have alcohol to make the day a little warmer, it would probably be one of these people.

Also, this part of the OCD is specifically mocking Deadpool, haha!

For all your other welcome picnic-y tasks!

You know how when the year changes, you forget to put the new year on dates instead of the old year? I've been putting 2017 on things for like, a month now.

Tony did not have any alcohol, unfortunately. But he did have a warm drink in hand.

It was coffee. Of course it was coffee.

He kept an eye out for this Nathan Algren guy as he sipped.

Merrill found her way to the picnic through no conscious intent of her own, mind you. But there were trees and there was a nice fire and there was food, so it seemed like a nice place to be.

She helped herself to a plate of food and sat down beside a tree, mostly content to eat and watch people.

To be fair, I hardly think anyone could blame you for preemptively wishing 2016 over. Like, at all.

"And after I gave serious thought to waving at you at the airport," he said, shaking his head sadly. "I didn't because I didn't want to seem desperate, but I thought about it."

Hannibal was here, and interested in what the person he was supposed to be shepherding would be like. Until they showed up, he had very good coffee and a selection of very good meat and vegetable pies in his thermal bag, for himself and anyone else he liked enough to feed.

And the Nathan Algren guy, while not really aware that he was supposed to be keeping an eye out for Tony just yet, was making his way over to him with a disgruntled-if-pleasant smile on his face the moment he recognized the man.

He was wearing a Japanese haori and hakama, and had an armload of personal possessions, mostly clothes. A sword. Some old journals. Unfortunately, none of these things included shoes. It was winter here. Just guess at his reasons for being disgruntled.

"Tony," he called out, giving him a familiar nod and a look of relief. "Please tell me this gathering isn't what I think this gathering is?"

An elderly man made his way onto the front lawn. Though clad in a violently violet velvet coat and top hat, his most noteworthy accessory was a large, covered object. He dragged it along well enough on the sidewalk, but once he reached the grass, the task became substantially more difficult. (http://i.imgur.com/hRaK5bV.jpg)

Electroclash was here. Looking surly, with coffee. And wearing a black coat with some green accents on it over her uniform.

She kind of wished she'd brought alcohol, if she was honest.

Ah. Alright. Apparently Algren was supposed to be teaching, again. He wished he could even muster up a look of surprise at that, but mostly he was just continuing to look mildly uncomfortable as he staked out a place by the fire, clad in a men's kimono and sock feet. Tabi feet. Whatever.

Fandom Island. He'd missed it, except for things like this.

At some point he was going to bother to find out what it was he was even supposed to be teaching, here. That time was not right now.

Did Sparkle look a little bit like a deer in the headlights?

Sparkle looked a whole lot like a deer in the headlights. He'd even left his backpack at home today, because there was probably some kind of unspoken rule about stealing food from the welcome picnic when you'd apparently lost your mind and applied to be a teacher. Probably. He wasn't sure. He wasn't going to steal food for leftovers just to be on the safe side.

There was totally alcohol in his coffee, though. He wasn't even going to pretend there wasn't.

What had he been thinking?

So. One minute, Pinkie Pie had been hanging out with her friends by the Wondercolts statue on the front lawn of Canterlot High, as they were wont to do even when they didn't have school that day.

The next she'd made the eensy weensy error of startling Twilight Sparkle while she was experimenting and got blown backwards through a portal on the wrong side of the Wondercolts statue.

She was guessing this was not Equestria. There was a serious dearth of horses, for instance. There did seem to be a party going on, though, so who was she to complain?

Pinkie frowned at the sign. "I didn't even know I was coming here and they already have my very own room set up for me?" Then she brightened into a broad Pinkie grin. "Neat!"

Well, now. There was a picnic going on. And far be it for Goody to be rude and avoid the town's festivities.

It's deeply confusing festivities.

"Oh, I am in hell then," he said, eyeing Deadpool.

A common mistake.

Eliot watched for a few moments, one eyebrow raised. Honestly, he wasn't sure why he was even surprised.

"You need a hand with that?"

He was going to regret asking, wasn't he.

"A welcome picnic," Tony ventured, taking in all that Tom Cruise weeabo. "Have we met? I'm sorry, I'm usually better at placing people."

Eliot had been to enough of these by now that it felt like old hat. He didn't have a beer with him -- that would be tacky in front of the students. He had a thermal travel cup full of coffee instead. Even better than alcohol for keeping things warmer.

Really, they couldn't have this thing at, like, the community center or something?

It was a party! And as far as Pinkie could tell, seeing as it was a welcome party and she was the only one on the list of new rooms, it was a party all for her.

She was pretty sure she should be looking for another portal to take her back to Canterlot High, but party. Anyway, Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer were sure to be right on top of that already. It didn't hurt to have a little fun in the meantime, right?

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Okay. Maybe a lot of fun.

"It's a welcome picnic," Nathan muttered under his breath, shaking his head. "Of course it's a welcome picnic."

Because the island thought it was funny. It generally did.

The rest of that caught up to Nathan a moment later, and he gave Tony an odd look.

"Nathan? Nathan Algren? I'm fairly sure we've met, at least once or twice. There was the fishing trip with Steve and Tyler? The winter in Japan? The bees?"

He was never going to let go of the bees.

"Awfully generous of you, yes."

Wonka leaned on his cane, trying to strike a pose that looked dapper, rather than fatigued. He held the rope out to Eliot, glancing back at the object.

"I'd forgotten all about grass. Or at least, the real stuff. It's rather tricky, isn't it? Wheels don't seem to get along with it at all. I wonder if it's the wheels or the grass itself that need fixing..."

Now caught up in his puzzling, Wonka had neglected to note the small stream of smoke that was now coming from the object.

Tip found herself a spot at one of the tables and curled up, tucking her legs as best she could into her coat. Bill flitted about in front of her, providing color commentary.

"You know I can't read Boov that fast," Tip told him with a smile. "And don't be mean. I'm sure that girl with the pink hair is just excited to be here."
