Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Thankfully, the weather on the island today was fairly nice for the tail end of December, but there was still a medium-sized bonfire going in the middle of the lawn, partly due to tradition and partly due to the potential for shirtlessness (which, Zoe supposed, was also tradition.)

The usual tables were set up with warm foods, nametags, and lists for the new and old folks to find each other. Once everything was set up, it was time to celebrate a new year and the start of a new semester!

[OCD is up! I'm consolidating this down to one post, so bring all your new and old folks over here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Hannibal was here, and interested in what the person he was supposed to be shepherding would be like. Until they showed up, he had very good coffee and a selection of very good meat and vegetable pies in his thermal bag, for himself and anyone else he liked enough to feed.

Well, time to round up the courage and chat with his associates. These people could socialize without making each other disappear, or kind-of-maybe being tempted to turn each other into ingredients.

Wonka picked a face that looked friendly and safe, stepping over to greet Dr. Lecter.

"Hullo! Were this any other school, I'd assume you to be a teacher. It is, however, the best guess I have at the moment, as I don't know many other members of the faculty."

The only one that tempted Hannibal that way most days was the dean, but details.

He looked the man over curiously, devoutly hoped he didn't always dress that way (suspected he did), and held out a hand to shake. "You would be assuming correctly, in any case. Doctor Hannibal Lecter. And you are?"

Oh he didn't always dress like this. Just when he wanted to look dapper. He gave Hannibal's hand a firm shake.

"Fantastic! Willy Wonka, chocolatier and set to teach Creative Confectionery this semester. Any idea how the cooking facilities on campus are?"

Hannibal smiled. "They are quite good. The shop here will mimic any setup you require, including individual stations for the students if you're teaching that way. I think there is also a standard cooking classroom, but I never found it adequate."

Because he was a snob about kitchens.

He pondered. The temptation to hold classes in an imitation of his factory fell flat. A lithograph would never be a canvas.

"As lovely as that shop might sound, it would take much of the fun out of things. No workspace is quite as inspiring as one you've built from the ground up. Best to have the students make the classroom their own. Even if it means a slight-" his smile wavered- "dip in quality of tools. I'll at least ensure that they have proper ingredients."

"Those are, of course, the most important." Personally, Hannibal preferred quality tools as well, but to each their own. "Should you need to purchase things, Baltimore is across the causeway, and I can offer some suggestions as to quality shops."

"I do need to pick up some piping. And I did leave my sledgehammer and pickaxe behind." He started planning a shopping list. "I'll have to start surveying for a local chocolate vein. No sense in importing when you can find it fresh!"

Hannibal was going to be charitable here, and assume the man was from a different sort of world, rather than outright insane.

"I'm afraid you must make chocolate here; it isn't a natural resource."

"In any event, you'll want to check with the school before you engage in any prospecting. There are many areas here it might be inadvisable to dig into, particularly as the island is alive."
