Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day
Thankfully, the weather on the island today was fairly nice for the tail end of December, but there was still a medium-sized bonfire going in the middle of the lawn, partly due to tradition and partly due to the potential for shirtlessness (which, Zoe supposed, was also tradition.)
The usual tables were set up with warm foods, nametags, and lists for the new and old folks to find each other. Once everything was set up, it was time to celebrate a new year and the start of a new semester!
[OCD is up! I'm consolidating this down to one post, so bring all your new and old folks over here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"You need a hand with that?"
He was going to regret asking, wasn't he.
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
Wonka leaned on his cane, trying to strike a pose that looked dapper, rather than fatigued. He held the rope out to Eliot, glancing back at the object.
"I'd forgotten all about grass. Or at least, the real stuff. It's rather tricky, isn't it? Wheels don't seem to get along with it at all. I wonder if it's the wheels or the grass itself that need fixing..."
Now caught up in his puzzling, Wonka had neglected to note the small stream of smoke that was now coming from the object.

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"I should hope so. It's already on fire, and I'd like it to remain that way for a little while longer. Not too much longer, mind. At least until I've gotten it on there."
He pointed over toward the food tables. Yes, he was planning to try to lift the whole thing. He just didn't have the plan part yet.
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Why is it on fire?!"
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Pizazz."
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Are you insane?"
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
Because of course this was his new teaching buddy. Of course.
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Willy Wonka, confectioner and chocolatier. And you are..?"
With a burst of realization, Wonka laughed, clapping himself on the head.
“Good gracious, you’re Eliot Spencer! Then there’s really no need to keep this covered. We can put it wherever you wish.”
Wonka turned back to the object, and grabbed the cloth covering it. He took one breath, expression momentarily locked in steely concentration. Then he pulled at the whole thing, tugging so hard he nearly fell over. The cover slid away to reveal the object underneath.
A cake. (http://i.imgur.com/82wNSEu.jpg) A very large, brightly colored cake, of several layers, patterns, and countless candles. Atop the giant confection were a handful of sparklers, the light from which danced upon the glittery top layer.
Wonka stepped back from his gift, taking in first the sight, then eagerly awaiting Eliot’s reaction.
“The squirrels informed me that you would be my ‘teaching buddy.’ It wouldn’t do to show up empty-handed.”
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
Somewhere off in the picnicy distance, a pink haired girl let out an absolutely delighted squeal.
Eliot stared some more.
"Oh no," he said softly. "You shouldn't have."
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"My pleasure! Though I do seem to have forgotten what it's like to cook on a smaller scale. It is a gift for you, but perhaps, unless your household happens to include more than a hundred habitats, you might want to share."
OOC: I can make a post in the mingling thread to open the cake up to everyone else, if you’d like.
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Sharing," Eliot said, grasping desperately at the option that didn't result in this thing in his house and Parker attempting to eat the entire thing. "Yes. Great plan. Let's share it."
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
He raised a gloved hand. "No need to turn that down, I absolutely insist on making your largesse known."
OOC: The cake is served over yonder! (http://fandomhigh.livejournal.com/4147148.html?thread=223824588#t223824588)
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Right. Thanks." The cake taken care of -- and not setting anything on fire, thankfully -- it was time to move on to other matters. "So. You taught before?"
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
He grinned. "And what subject do you teach, Mr. Spencer?"
Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2017]
"Most anything the school asks me to," he said, passing it off as just an odd turn of phrase. "This place is fairly non-traditional, so they've bounced me around some. Did Shop class last semester, doing Home Ec this time around."

"A jack of all trades! There's nothing finer than learning about something completely new." He nodded approvingly. "And I do believe that I've been assigned the home economics room for my class, as well. I'll be bringing in ingredients for my classes, but please feel free to make use of any leftovers. I'll mark anything that could be dangerous. I'm very particular about warnings."

He was under the impression that Wonka meant, say, puffer fish or something.

He suppresses a shudder.
"Breakfast cereals."

"Who's the genius who's been putting corn syrup and marshmallows in cereal?"
It might've sounded like sarcasm, but it wasn't. Had he missed modern breakfast developments? Had the public finally revolted and discarded those heaps of pencil shavings which cereal companies attempted to pass off as food?
And worse, were they doing a shoddy job of it? Under no circumstances should marshmallows ever be likened to Styrofoam.
