Yesterday had been disturbing. That was all Lucille was going to say on the matter, and she was going to support any research done into what was happening.

The library was open, and even though drinks were generally forbidden here, tea was being offered.

Something had tried to kill her on the dorm roof this morning. Ada had been out there checking the little garden for anything edible when it flew at her, screaming. She'd dashed back inside, throwing her weight against the door to keep it out until it got bored and wandered off.

She wasn't staying there any more. She'd thrown essentials (and a few sentimental items) into two messenger bags, and headed in to the library, figuring that's where most of the adults would be -- who were better at fighting things than she was -- and that there was safety in numbers.

Ada knew as much as she loved novels that research wasn't her strength, so she'd brought something else to help instead: pulling foodstuffs out of one of the bags and starting to fix sandwiches for people, and making a stack of fruit. Since without power everything in the common room fridges was going to go bad, she'd raided them for things that would need to be eaten sooner rather than later.
