After a very nice ACJ class, Rory made her way to the library and open~~ated~~ it.

The library is open. Read or something, and try not to get maimed in the process.

"Sort of. I think I've figured out his first name. But I want to give him something kind of wacky for his middle name so we can come up with a cute nickname," Rory replied thoughtfully, thumbing through the pages.

"How wacky are we talking? Greek myth wacky? Home appliance wacky? Nonsense syllables wacky?" Parker took her perch on one of the spinny chairs and asked, "Is your mom busy doing stuff for the baby these days? Because I wanted to ask for her help with another sewing project, but I won't bother her if she's stressed."

"She'd probably welcome it. And as for names...well, look at my name." Rory shrugged. "Something weird and offbeat like that."

"Good. I'll stop by her office hours soon." Parker grinned. "I have ideas for Cam's superhero costume, I just hope she can make them work. What is your middle name, anyway? And did Anakin ever guess it?"

"It's Leigh," she replied, pronouncing it 'lay'. "And yes, he did. He had a list of like, hundreds that he narrowed it down from, though." She shook her head. "He's so weird."

Parker snickered. "Any news from him, on his galactic walkabout? And Lay? As in the potato chips? Rory, I like your mom, but I think that's taking pop culture too far."

"L-E-I-G-H," Rory spelled, rolling her eyes. She went a bit more serious. "And no, nothing. But I don't know how he'd get any news to me, so...yeah."

"Fingers crossed, then. Aeryn came back. Anakin will too."

Rory shrugged. "Holding out for something that won't happen is illogical and a waste of time." She sighed and focused on her book. "Might just be better to start expecting him not to come back."

"Way too early to say. He'd at least send one of his very best friends a postcard to let her know, either way." Parker tilted an eyebrow at Rory. "Since his galaxy isn't like Aeryn's I hope, and they'd at least let him do that."

"I don't know. I mean, that would still require someone to come back here, since it's not as though my email's hooked up so he can send stuff to me," Rory replied, still concentrating on her book.

Parker shook her head. "I won't jinx it by mentioning anything else. But I think you're wrong. There would at least be a good-bye."

Rory shrugged again. "Believe me," she said, looking up and dropping her voice, "I want him to come back. I would almost say I need him to, except that's melodramatic and idiotic. But I learned a long time ago that holding out for people to come back just ends up hurting more in the long run."

Parker studied her a moment, then said, "In all the excitement, you never did tell me how your visit with Jess went, before Spring Break started."

"Ugh, badly. You were right." Rory covered her eyes with one hand. "We were fine until I started to leave and then he...kissed me. And started throwing out declarations of love and asking me to come away with him, and...agh, just a mess."

"Ugh. Sorry. Sometimes I hate being right, and this would be one of those times. Declarations of love? You hadn't seen him in months! What was he thinking? Jesus."

"Yeah, exactly. I don't know what to think about it, since I think it was kind of a desperation kind of thing," Rory replied, shaking her head.

Parker cocked her head in recognition, and rolled her eyes. "Less about you, and more about him? His life?"

"Something like that. I just think he wants what he can't have," Rory said. "He...he has a lot of growing up to do."

"I'm sorry," Parker said. "I know you guys were close. I'm sorry he let you down like this."

Rory waved a hand. "Parker, Jess let me down almost a year ago. This was just a blip that I should have expected."

"Which isn't the same as Anakin having to leave, you know." Parker held up her hands. "Just saying." She grinned suddenly. "Did you ever explain that you weren't dating a teacher to your friend Paris?"

"Yes," Rory groaned, covering her face again. "She was all disappointed that I'm not indulging some 'teacher kink.'"

"Teacher kink?" Parker chortled. "Not that there aren't teachers here who are worthy of it, but... God, I want to meet this person. She sounds like a trip."

"She's very strange. You'd like her," Rory grinned.
