Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 18, Period 1, 03.16.06

[OOC: It will be difficult to play while at work today due to moving to a new office down the hall and therefore not being at the computer. Or even, perhaps, having my computer set up for a portion of the day. Therefore, I have help today! Class Info Post.]

"Hello, class!" Tick said from behind his desk. Lockheed was on his normal shelf. "Today we have a special guest: Constable Benton Fraser, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Fandom High Security. He will be speaking of his experiences and views on Justice. So please, have some coffee," Tick motioned to the cups on his desk, "and give Constable Fraser your full attention."

So after Tuesday's discussion Cameron just has to ask. "Sir, do you find that the uniform helps you to do a better job? And does it seem more popular with certain parts of the civilians than with others?"

Re: Q&A [Class 18]

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Does my uniform better help me do my job? I think it makes me more noticeable and, in certain circumstances, alerts those who need help that they can approach me since my uniform gives me away as a law enforcement individual. Does it help me better catch criminals? I honestly don't believe it makes that much a difference. Criminals do not want to be caught in most circumstances so, whether I'm wearing a uniform or jeans and a t-shirt, criminals will still attempt to evade and I'll still attempt to pursue and capture," Fraser answers. "As for the popularity of the uniform, it does seem to attract attention."

Cameron nods because that makes sense. Then he asks, "Mostly with girls, right?"

Parker notices this, and manages *not* to shoot her a worried look, but it's a close thing.

Cameron tilts his head as he notices Aeryn's response or lack thereof. "You ok?" He asks softly.

Jaye raises her hand. "Mr. Hot Mountie, sir? Under the influence of gremlin, I thought I was a cop and frisked someone, but I think I did it wrong. What's the proper procedure? Can we get a demonstration?"

Fraser's still stuck on the name she just called.

"Mr. Hot Mountie?" Fraser finally asks.

Fraser turns and jumps a little at seeing Miss Morgendorffer. "Are you in this class, Miss Morgendorffer? There are seats."

"Do you have any particular methodology you use that you find to be effective against crime?"

Re: Q&A [Class 18]

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"A good question," Fraser says. "Prevention is way that most law enforcement choose to approach crime. Prevent the crime from happening, prevent destruction of property, injury, or loss of life and prevent a person from actually becoming a criminal. Such things as Neighborhood Watch fall under his method. Of course, prevention doesn't always work. Therefore, I tend to lean towards a method of prevention and vigilance. Watch your surroundings carefully, indentify possible problems and know what to do in case the problem erupts. In this day and age, anyone could be a criminal. You can't rule out an eighty year old woman with a walker as criminal which is very unfortunate. Prevent where you can, be aware when you can't."

Because come on. Like she's the only one in that boat.

[That always had the correct pronoun. Shh.]

"He does," Fraser nods. "He's been known to chase down a suspect. He can track scents exceptionally well which means there have been times that he's stayed with that scent until the suspect was captured by the authorities."

Bridge raises his hand.

"What's the training like, to become an RCMP officer?" He asks.

Re: Q&A [Class 18]

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Training consists of many things," Fraser begins. "It's based on principles of adult learning and community policing. The training revolves around a system of learning how to see each situation from a client's perspective. Training includes scenario training, roleplaying, lectures, panel discussions, research, presentations, and community interactions. Cadets are largely responsible for seeking out the information on their own. There is individual and group work involved. There is, of course, physical training as well. Remember to bring your atheltic tennis shoes."

Callisto might have come to class a lot bit, later than usual. She might also have been rubbing her wrist a lot. "Constable Fraser, what kind of penalties are there for people who impersonate officers of the law?"

Re: Q&A [Class 18]

[identity profile] just-add-starch.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Impersonating an officer of the law is punishable by both jail time and fines," Fraser says. "It's quite a serious offense considering, most likely, the officer was being impersonated for the wrong reasons."
