How to Be Awesome, Wednesday, 3rd Period

The Danger Shop looked like a movie theater today. Jackson was parked at one end of the back row of seats.

"Today we're gonna look at things not being awesome," he drawled. "Like this movie. Which you're gonna watch now. So sit your asses down."

Yeah, it was a movie day. Look, the island had smelled funny since Jackson had shown up this morning. As the kids filed in it became extra obvious that there was no point to having a proper class, which was good, because the weird smells were throwing Jackson off anyway.

So the movie began.

He was white and red - a red that sometimes pulsed like it was in tune with his heartbeat or something, which was even weirder - and he had no idea why.

Look, she couldn't solve this with sex (ew), drink (couldn't get the bottle open) or dirty stories (or hold a pen), puns were her last resort.

Roscoe shouldn't feel too bad. Dante was friends with Isabela, and between the two of them, they tended to exhaust the punning potential of anything pretty quickly.

He appreciated all puns. Even repeat puns.

"We all deserve thumbs way more than that guy," Dante said. "Fuck that guy." Beat. "You doing okay?"

Dante... somehow managed a shrug. It mostly involved rampant abuse of those weird lizardy wings on his back. "We've had worse," he said. "Just kinda fucked up, losing your memory like that, especially when--"

He nodded vaguely towards Ada.

"No kidding. Sounds pretty fucking traumatizing," Roscoe agreed. He didn't have weird superpowers or anything that it would be scary to discover, but the idea of being that vulnerable was not appealing. "You know Lucille? She was trying to tell me it was, like, no big deal for her."

He rolled his eyes.

He shook it off. "You were there in class yesterday, right? She mentioned her mom?"

Yeah, okay, Dante knew the story was more complicated than that, but he wasn't about to tell Roscoe that.

Anyway. As for Lucille, he attempted a little shrug with his wings. "She let me lecture her on gender theory. That, I gotta give her credit for."

Seriously, not everyone could put up with his speeches.

The words man, you should've met Kathy were almost out of Dante's mouth before he managed to bit them back; the end result was that he didn't comment on that last part at all.

"So yeah, for some people it's fucked up," he said, pushing on ahead. "Reminds her of bad stuff. The whole thing when it's happening's not so bad. You don't know shit anyway."
