Wednesday 3/15, Library is Open

Zero opened up the library, as usual, and settled in behind the desk to be available for all the student body's libraryish needs. Which frequently seemed to consist of gossiping and bringing the aides pastry, but hey, she wasn't complaining.

Fraser ~~as promised!~~ comes into the library with what he thinks is an overdue library book under his arm.

"Hello, Mr. Fraser. Or...what's the proper term of address for a mountie, anyway?"

"Mr. Fraser is perfectly fine," Fraser says. "Constable is also fine. How are you this morning, Miss Hopeless-Savage?"

Zero's page finally loaded, and her eyes widened at the amount of the fine Dirk had been ordered to pay. "I'm swerval! Thanks for askin'. Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Perhaps," he says slowly and sets the book on the counter. "I seem to have an overdue library book. I'm prepared to pay the fine."

"I see." Her eyes flicker. "OBEY THE RULES OF THE LIBRARY."

Fraser just stares.

"I understand," he says calmly, "and know that I was in the wrong. I wonder, do all people who have overdue material get such a stern warning?"

"All must comply. The rules are known to you and--bloody buggerin' hell, get out of my head! I'm so sorry, Constable. It does that sometimes."

And now Fraser's more off guard.

"It?" Fraser asks.

"The Library. It talks to me. Long story. But uh, never sign anything around here without readin' it first." Zero consulted the computer. "That'll be a dollar and forty-three cents." She blinked at the screen, because it actually said '$1.43 (square root of pi).' But she didn't want to overly trouble Constable Fraser, with his nice hat and all.

Fraser smiles and hands Zero the exact change. "Yesterday, I learned that one of the professors has a dragon for a roommate. Today, I learn that the library talks to students. Soon, I'll be unsurprised by any new revelation."

"Yeah, I was like that when I got here, too. There's none of this weird stuff back home. Well, my sister an' brother's boyfriends' grandmother tells the future, but I don' think she's for real. Now, I just assume everything is weird, an' that seems to work out well for me."

"I believe that way of thinking would benefit me right about now," Fraser says, nodding. "Is the library angry with me?"

Rory smiled charmingly and waved.

Fraser waves back. "How are you today, Miss Gilmore?"

"I'm just great, sir," Rory said happily. "How are you?"

"I'm very well, thank you for asking." Fraser smiles at her. "Did you have an enjoyable Spring Break?"

"I did! I went to England," Rory said contentedly. "Did you do anything interesting?"

"England? How exciting." Fraser shakes his head and says, "Unfortunately, I stayed behind to make sure the students who remained on campus remained safe. Did you and Mr. Harris meet up in England? He told me he also went on the trip."

"Oh, Xander and I spent a lot of time together there, yeah," Rory nodded. "He was very sweet. We shopped together."

"He is a very nice person," Fraser agrees. "Though, he had the unfortunate circumstance of having a maple leaf drawn on him."

"It started as a flower," Rory replied. "There were fishies, too. Xander is a very creative person, and I think some people simply were so inspired by him that they were caught up in it."

"He purchased presents for Diefenbaker," Fraser tells her. "I was surprised by his kind gesture. Though, between us, I do wish I could've seen the maple leaf."

"Then you're in luck!" Rory pulled out her phone, and flipped through the scary pictures from yesterday to find what she was looking for, and showed him the screen. "Here we go. This is Xander sleeping on the bus with the maple leaf on his head. Aw. Sleepy Xander."

Parker waves to him as he comes in, and looks around for Diefenbaker.
