US Government - Period 4 - 03/15/06

"Morning," Hawkeye greeted everyone as they entered. He was wearing clothes, but they were obscured by his maroon bathrobe. He had a cup of coffee in his hand. "Professor Lyman's not back yet, so you're stuck with me. I won't subject you to what I think about the United States government, because chances are a lot has changed since my time. Today's project is an interactive one. Sign in and pick a state. Don't double up. You're now the Senator for that state. You've been elected by the people in your state to represent them on a national level. The issue of the day is that there's been a slump in the economy and we can't keep importing goods to save our collective tushes. The states have something that other states want. Interact with each other and, as representatives for your state, try to get as good a deal as you can out of your negotiations."

Angela makes a list of stuff from Pennsylvania.

So far, she has Hershey's chocolate, steel, pretzels and the Liberty Bell.

Marty tosses a paper airplane at Angela.

Hey. I need steel to support my automotive industry. Can we broker a deal?

Angela caught the note and slowly nodded at Marty, scooting her desk closer to him.

"Okay, um, how much steel and how many cars?" she asked. "And do you have any snack foods you can trade for my chocolate and pretzels?"

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] oatmanspatient.livejournal.com 2006-03-15 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um... quite a lot of steel for a good amount of cars?" Marty suggested not expecting to have exact amounts ready for bartering. "And the great state of Michigan is not well known for their snack foods, however this senator would be willing to trade real kisses with the senator of Pennsylvannia for Hershey's kisses."

"Want some agricultural products?" John asks the room. "Grain? What about the Chicago Bears? Anyone want them?"

Angela scooted away from Marty and toward John, still laughing a little. "Um, chocolate for grain, does that work?" she asked. "We have pretzels, too. But I guess you could make your own."

"But just so you know the state of Michigan and Pennsylvania have a kiss bartering system that is exclusive to each state!" Marty blurted out.

Okay. He might be a tad jealous.

"Ooh cars?" Duo asks hopefully. "I'm still pushin' these oranges and other fruit-related items."

"Hmmm. Illinois has chemicals!" John nods. "Wanna do some science experiments? I can export all kinds of nifty chemicals for some cars!"

"I can't for the life of me think what I would want with mouse ears, but deal," Elizabeth grins. "I need to be dealing with the federal government really, because I've got submarines. And the coast guard academy as well."

Alphonse picked Texas because that's what the mun is most familiar with and listed off a few things they had; Cattle (lots and lots of cows), oil (hi, Houston), more cows, agriculture (lots of that too), and bad traffic.

Lindsey is tempted to tell his classmates that Oklahoma has nothing to trade, because it's the worst state ever. He manages to control himself though.

"Uh, we've got wheat. And cattle. And industrial machinery. And natural gas and petroleum. And we're the only state that produces iodine. You all want iodine, don't you? For all your iodizing needs?"

Sam pondered. "Well, if anyone wants to leave Earth, they have to come to me for the aerospace program. And there's oranges. Oh! We can't forget if anyone wants anything exported to or from Central and South America."

"And Walt Disney World. Epcot Center pwns. That is all."

Re: Discussion

[identity profile] notcalledlizzie.livejournal.com 2006-03-16 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Walt Disney World is the best part of Florida," Elizabeth nodded. "Although you also have Universal Studios and Busch Gardens. And Seaworld."

Ah, Peter Parker's New York: producer of superheroes, mob flunkies, street vendors, and more take-out than you've ever seen in your life.

Oh, and World Series trophies. They've got, what, three dozen of those? Plenty to trade!

"Wanna set up a mob family connection with Florida?" Sam tugged at the neck of her shirt. God, she hated turtlenecks. "They've got a booming construction industry and export to South and Central America regularly."
