Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Gosh, the summer picnic was so much nicer--and warmer--than the spring one. There were tables and chairs set up in the sun and the shade, and more than enough food for everyone. Hopefully, everyone was up for socializing for a while!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Roscoe stuck his nametag onto the center of his sundress and found a comfortable spot to lean against a tree and do some people-watching.

By now he knew not to be surprised that there were some people wearing armor and others in what had to be ultra-ultra-vintage, but it was still strange to see.

Wait, was that guy wearing a sundress? Cool.

Dante studied him for a moment, trying to figure out if he could be motivated to get up again for this one or not.

Stupid hangover. At least it was clearing up some.

On the other hand, Roscoe was more than willing to walk the necessary distance to meet someone with those cheekbones. Damn.

"Gotta say I admire your picnic strategy," he remarked. "Let people come to you. I dig it."

"Hey, I've got no problem coming to people either," Dante said. Big grins were right out, but smirking, he could do. "But I'm having a hard-to-get-to kinda day."

"Been there," Roscoe said. "But normally after a night out partying, and last night I had to do the whole packing-for-boarding-school thing, so today I'm feeling lively."

He smirked right back.

"I like your pendant."

"I like your fashion sense," Dante said. He took a quick swig from his bottle of water. "A lot of guys coming in here aim for 'boring'."

Not that Dante was at red corset levels of not boring right now, but eh.

"That's lame. I get bored enough in class. Not about to be bored when I'm looking in the mirror too," Roscoe said. His tone hovered somewhere between proud and cocky. "But with all the body glitter I'm seeing today? Not bored yet."

"Welcome to Fandom Island," Dante said. "Where the body glitter comes to you, whether you like it or not. You haven't even seen any of our dances yet."

You know, that pizza Isabela had given him was doing the trick. He was starting to feel like himself again.

... which meant whatever subtlety he was exhibiting right now was sure to go out the window any second.

Subtlety? What was subtlety?

"I definitely have to go to one," Roscoe gushed. "I'm a pretty sick dancer." Okay, moving more towards cocky now, but in a mostly joking way. "Guessing you are too. You look like you know how to move."

Oh, from all the sitting under the tree Dante was doing? Yeah. Real flexible.

Hey, you had to be limber if you wanted to be able to squeeze into skinny jeans like Dante did, all right?

"I do," he said, smirk deepening some. "But if you ever wanna find out for sure, I'm in Room 322."

He lifted his chin. "What's your name, new kid?"

Roscoe gestured in a sweeping motion in the direction of his scribbled nametag. "Roscoe. You? And I'm in room 516."

He paused. "I'm pretty sure."

He was going to have to check the sign again. Look, it was a busy day.

Right on Kathy's old floor.

Good.

It was time to make a few better memories up there. Looking this one up and down right here, he looked pretty bangable even outside the whole 'confidence to wear a sundress to a first-day picnic' thing.

"I'm Dante," Dante said easily, "As you can tell, I'm too cool to read name tags." That was a joke. He was well aware he was only just starting to shake that aura d'hangover right here. "I got a roommate, but he's cool. Who's yours?"

And Dante was nailing that whole 'lazy, relaxed, and super-hot' thing. Roscoe really liked that. And after everything that had just gone down with Lex back home, he was due for something casual.

"Haven't met them yet," Roscoe shrugged. "Hyacinthe something. You know 'em?"

"Sounds like a newbie to me," Dante said, stretching.

On purpose. Of course.

"Haven't seen anyone like that so far, either. Maybe you've got a runner."

Which would be so sad. You could tell from Dante's tone.

"I can think of a lot of things to do with a surprise double room," Roscoe said with that same tone of not-sadness. And a smirk, naturally. "Wouldn't say no to an extra dresser and a double bed." Emphasis on the double bed.

"The singles are kind of on the tiny side," Dante said. He sat forward, bunching up his knees. Roscoe had a nice smirk, too. "But you shove two of 'em together, and you've got room for all kinds of shit."

Roscoe sprawled out, at least as much as he could given that he was wearing a dress. "I can think of some examples," he admitted. "But I probably shouldn't get too used to the idea. Unless you guys get a lot of runners here, and then I should probably be nervous."

For what it was worth, he wasn't often nervous.

"Not usually, but people come and go."

That would've come out angrier last weekend. Now, Dante was happy to keep it casual. "But hey, even if the roommate isn't a runner, there's still walls, desks, floors..."

He was... half-joking.

"Showers, couches..." Roscoe filled in. "Maybe even closets. You know, I might just need a tour guide."

They didn't normally put 'places to have sex' on the school tour, Roscoe.

They did on Dante's school tours, please.

"I think I can make that happen," Dante said. "Can't have pretty new kids getting lost on their first weekend."

"Thanks," Roscoe replied, grinning again. "You know I'd be so grateful."

Was that a squirrel nearby rolling its eyes?

"So," he said. "What do you do for fun around here, Dante?" Other than what they had already established as being a fun way to pass the time, that is.

"On the island? Not all that much," Dante said. "It gets pretty boring in here. There's karaoke in the dorms, and at one of the two bars. The one that serves minors."

He waved vaguely in the direction of town. "Caritas," he said. "Everything else, you need to head out to the city."

"I don't hate karaoke," he admitted. "But I'm definitely gonna be spending some time in the city. I'm from LA, so - a two-bar town? Not really my scene."

"Hey, a West Coast boy," Dante said lightly. (Fucking LA.) "I'm from the other one. But I feel you on that. There's a bunch of good clubs up in Baltimore, though. I can take you sometime."

"Yeah, we are absolutely doing that." He tilted his head. "Huh. Unexpected perk of boarding school: no curfew. And no enforcing a curfew. I like it."

Not that he was accustomed to the strictest parenting style to begin with. But there was a whole delightful difference between laissez-faire parenting and no parenting.
