Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Gosh, the summer picnic was so much nicer--and warmer--than the spring one. There were tables and chairs set up in the sun and the shade, and more than enough food for everyone. Hopefully, everyone was up for socializing for a while!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

And Dante was nailing that whole 'lazy, relaxed, and super-hot' thing. Roscoe really liked that. And after everything that had just gone down with Lex back home, he was due for something casual.

"Haven't met them yet," Roscoe shrugged. "Hyacinthe something. You know 'em?"

"Sounds like a newbie to me," Dante said, stretching.

On purpose. Of course.

"Haven't seen anyone like that so far, either. Maybe you've got a runner."

Which would be so sad. You could tell from Dante's tone.

"I can think of a lot of things to do with a surprise double room," Roscoe said with that same tone of not-sadness. And a smirk, naturally. "Wouldn't say no to an extra dresser and a double bed." Emphasis on the double bed.

"The singles are kind of on the tiny side," Dante said. He sat forward, bunching up his knees. Roscoe had a nice smirk, too. "But you shove two of 'em together, and you've got room for all kinds of shit."

Roscoe sprawled out, at least as much as he could given that he was wearing a dress. "I can think of some examples," he admitted. "But I probably shouldn't get too used to the idea. Unless you guys get a lot of runners here, and then I should probably be nervous."

For what it was worth, he wasn't often nervous.

"Not usually, but people come and go."

That would've come out angrier last weekend. Now, Dante was happy to keep it casual. "But hey, even if the roommate isn't a runner, there's still walls, desks, floors..."

He was... half-joking.

"Showers, couches..." Roscoe filled in. "Maybe even closets. You know, I might just need a tour guide."

They didn't normally put 'places to have sex' on the school tour, Roscoe.

They did on Dante's school tours, please.

"I think I can make that happen," Dante said. "Can't have pretty new kids getting lost on their first weekend."

"Thanks," Roscoe replied, grinning again. "You know I'd be so grateful."

Was that a squirrel nearby rolling its eyes?

"So," he said. "What do you do for fun around here, Dante?" Other than what they had already established as being a fun way to pass the time, that is.

"On the island? Not all that much," Dante said. "It gets pretty boring in here. There's karaoke in the dorms, and at one of the two bars. The one that serves minors."

He waved vaguely in the direction of town. "Caritas," he said. "Everything else, you need to head out to the city."

"I don't hate karaoke," he admitted. "But I'm definitely gonna be spending some time in the city. I'm from LA, so - a two-bar town? Not really my scene."

"Hey, a West Coast boy," Dante said lightly. (Fucking LA.) "I'm from the other one. But I feel you on that. There's a bunch of good clubs up in Baltimore, though. I can take you sometime."

"Yeah, we are absolutely doing that." He tilted his head. "Huh. Unexpected perk of boarding school: no curfew. And no enforcing a curfew. I like it."

Not that he was accustomed to the strictest parenting style to begin with. But there was a whole delightful difference between laissez-faire parenting and no parenting.

Dante snickered. "Yeah, they don't even bother with that shit here," he said. "You show up to your classes every now and again, and you're good. You could get up to a lot of trouble and no one would know."

Not that he ever had.

Cough.

"And I'm sure you've never done anything like that," Roscoe drawled. "Me neither, obviously. I'm, like, the most well-behaved."

Uh-huh.

"I'm a boarding school guy," Dante said, grinning. "I'm squeaky-clean."

"That's what I figured," Roscoe said, and that smirk was back. "So I guess I'll stop by your room if I ever need any homework help, Dante the squeaky clean."

Dante chuckled. "I'd definitely have your chemistry homework handled," he said. "You ever attend a place like this before?"

"Nope," Roscoe said. "I mean, fuck, I'm not even sure what 'a place like this' means, but I've never done the boarding school thing or the weird dimensional nexus thing." That was a term he'd learned from Big Sister Ada. It felt kind of weird to say. "Went to a hippie-dippie charter school until eighth grade and then a private school last year. Super dull. How 'bout you?"

"I'm a product of the wonderful Limbo City foster care system," Dante said, leaning back, taking a big swig of his water. "Take a guess."

"So not used to all this bougie crap," Roscoe summarized. "Got it."

Maybe a kid with a near-unlimited allowance shouldn't be using the word 'bougie,' but whatever.

"Why'd they send you here?"

"Would you believe me if I said I got on a bus and woke up here and found out I got enrolled?" Dante said, turning his head to watch the guy.

"I'd definitely believe you," Roscoe said at once, thinking of the guy from the bus who had seemed to think this was a military placement. "But can I just say how creepy that is?"

"Yeah, it's pretty fucked up." Funny how Dante didn't sound too fussed, though. "But hey, it got me a free ride in a boarding school with no curfew. I can live with that."

Considering what he was coming from.

"Guess so," Roscoe said, deciding not to dwell on it if Dante wasn't too worried about it. "How long ago was that?"
