Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of ~~moddable~~ warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

He definitely didn't have any control over his personal space. Not when he had a boyfriend doing his best limpet impression while attempting to burrow under every layer that Eliot had. Not that he was wearing enough. Hardison supposed he should just be lucky that Eliot hadn't paired his windbreaker with shorts and sandals or something equally ridiculous.

"It's freezin' out here," he grumbled. Pathetically. Mixing the two was a special gift he possessed. "Why we even out here? We should be indoors an' not chancin' hypothermia."

Eliot didn't wear sandals. Or shorts, for that matter. Not when he wasn't going in the water, anyway. And he'd long since given up on ever having personal space again, where Hardison was concerned.

He was less stabby than Parker was, after all.

"It's barely even cold," he grumbled, making no attempt to detach his boyfriend from his side. "Man, you're gonna stretch out my jacket."

"Shoulda thought about that before wearin' a tiny jacket," Hardison mumbled. "I thought you weren't teachin' this semester."

Tell him how cold it wasn't now that his frigid hands were on your side, Eliot.

Hardison normally loved this jacket! It was very nicely cut.

"So did I," Eliot growled, manfully repressing the urge to flinch away from those cold hands. Did Hardison even have circulation? "Apparently I'm chaperonin' the pony's latest adventures."

Yes, but normally wasn't now when all he wanted was to climb inside and be warm!

And no. It took a lot more time and effort for the blood to reach your limbs when you were as tall and gangly as Hardison was. Which was why he was trying to leech Eliot's warmth away. He was much more compact and would replace it sooner.

The idea of Eliot teaming up to teach with the pony was so absurd that Hardison couldn't help but start laughing. "You have fun with that!" he declared. "You know what kinda adventures you'll be havin'? Fun an' friendship, obviously, but, like, in particular?"

Eliot couldn't even hold that laughter against him, really. "'Parently she's decided to be a world traveler." It was going to go horribly wrong and Eliot was going to bitch about it every step of the way, yes.

"Oh god," Hardison said--and then suddenly stopped laughing. "Wait, you had a chance to look over where she wants to go, right?"

Because there was an entire section of the planet that Eliot really shouldn't ever go to. Ever. Especially not with minors and non-combatants.

"We ain't goin' to Myanmar," Eliot assured him. "I do know how to keep a low profile, you know."

"Yeah, but does she?" Hardison asked, pointing at the very bright pink pony currently talking to a guy dressed in a boomerang-themed outfit. "Will your students? Who signed up for the class?"

Because Kathy would keep still and quiet if someone approached Eliot. Come on now, Eliot.

Eliot sighed. "Yeah, they're all gonna get a crash course in low profile, too."

Whether they knew it yet or not.

"And maybe I'll pay Portalocity off not to send us to anywhere that's got a bounty on me."

Best of luck with that, Eliot.

"Why dontcha just plan out where you're goin' in advance?" Hardison suggested. "I'm pretty sure you hand Portalocity a list of places where you got a bounty an' they'll send you there for spite."

Possibly because of a very minor hacking kerfluffle. Possibly.

"The pony didn't even ask before she signed us up. Exactly how much of a chance to plan you think she's gonna give me?"

"C'mon, Eliot. You're my big, strong, manly boyfriend," Hardison teased. "Surely you can take on one little cotton candy-colored pony."

Hardison, you troll.

"She doesn't even respond to physics." Eliot had no problem admitting when he was beat. And Pinkie definitely had him beat. "Where the hell was she even carrying that Santa costume?"

This right here was why Hardison actually loved Pinkie. It wasn't often that Eliot got flustered.

"That ain't nothin' compared to that giant cannon she whips outta nowhere, " he said. "Be glad it was just a Santa costume."

Eliot only got flustered by things he had no ability to control. Like Pinkie Pie. Or emotions.

"She has a cannon?!"

"It's a party cannon."

And then because he was the absolute worst...

"Yo, Pinkie! Eliot ain't never seen your party cannon!"

You can't murder him, Eliot. Parker would be sad at you.

How long had they known each other, and Hardison never would have seen Eliot freeze in terror, before.

He clapped his hand over Hardison's mouth, eyes wide. "Dammit, Hardison!"

The close range blast that came from said blue and pink with daisies on it cannon nearly knocked Eliot off his feet. And yet the party hat still landed perfectly on his head. . . .

Hardison ended up with a green and orange hat with ivy and daffodils on it. Which, if anyone wanted his opinion, was entirely worth it for the privilege of witnessing this thing of beauty right here.

"See?" he said, managing not to break down into hysterical laughter just yet by sheer willpower. "Who even knows where that came from?"

And then he was laughing so hard he had trouble standing.

Eliot's response was incoherent, and mostly involved pointing.

Then he stopped. And smiled.

"I'm about to spend an entire semester with that pony," he said. "I bet I could convince her to get some fun revenge on you."

That shut Hardison up quickly.

"Hey man," he said, holding up his hands. "Nah, nah, we cool. You ain't gotta do all that now..."

Eliot slowly took the hat off his head, reached over, and put it on Hardison's.

And smiled.

"Man, you know that smile is creepy, right? Like that's your straight up mad creepy smile? Gives me the shivers every time I see it."

Hardison was not taking the hat off.

Eliot absolutely knew that, yes.

"It's real effective," he said, smile turning into a smirk as he pulled out his phone to take a picture of Hardison and his party hats.

. . . Or maybe a video, apparently. Stupid phone.

"Eliot uses Creepy Smile," Hardison joked. "It's Super-Effective."

Yes? No? Anything? Dammit, Eliot!

"...Also, you know you're recordin', right? An' last time you did this, you accidentally vined your first selfie?"
