Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Okay, admittedly, having a picnic at the beginning of January wasn't the best idea the school had ever come up with. Thankfully, the weather was sort of agreeable today - it wasn't too chilly, the sun was out, and there were still pretty pockets of unmelted snow on the lawn.

In the middle of the lawn, a bonfire had been set up for warmth and light--mostly the warmth--and the tables and chairs had been set out to mostly be in the sun. There was a long table with a variety of moddable warm foods, and there was the usual table of nametags and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything set up, it was time to welcome the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

How long had they known each other, and Hardison never would have seen Eliot freeze in terror, before.

He clapped his hand over Hardison's mouth, eyes wide. "Dammit, Hardison!"

The close range blast that came from said blue and pink with daisies on it cannon nearly knocked Eliot off his feet. And yet the party hat still landed perfectly on his head. . . .

Hardison ended up with a green and orange hat with ivy and daffodils on it. Which, if anyone wanted his opinion, was entirely worth it for the privilege of witnessing this thing of beauty right here.

"See?" he said, managing not to break down into hysterical laughter just yet by sheer willpower. "Who even knows where that came from?"

And then he was laughing so hard he had trouble standing.

Eliot's response was incoherent, and mostly involved pointing.

Then he stopped. And smiled.

"I'm about to spend an entire semester with that pony," he said. "I bet I could convince her to get some fun revenge on you."

That shut Hardison up quickly.

"Hey man," he said, holding up his hands. "Nah, nah, we cool. You ain't gotta do all that now..."

Eliot slowly took the hat off his head, reached over, and put it on Hardison's.

And smiled.

"Man, you know that smile is creepy, right? Like that's your straight up mad creepy smile? Gives me the shivers every time I see it."

Hardison was not taking the hat off.

Eliot absolutely knew that, yes.

"It's real effective," he said, smile turning into a smirk as he pulled out his phone to take a picture of Hardison and his party hats.

. . . Or maybe a video, apparently. Stupid phone.

"Eliot uses Creepy Smile," Hardison joked. "It's Super-Effective."

Yes? No? Anything? Dammit, Eliot!

"...Also, you know you're recordin', right? An' last time you did this, you accidentally vined your first selfie?"

Eliot scowled, resisting the urge tostart button mashing. "Shut up."

There was a still camera option in here somewhere, dammit.

"Cell Phone uses Confused on Eliot," Hardison muttered. "It's Super-Effective."

"Stop talking in memes!" Eliot now assumed that whenever Hardison's babble got extra nonsensical, it was a meme.

God help them if Hardison ever had a stroke.

Maybe Parker would be able to tell the difference?

"Your Eliot has successfully transformed into...Angry Old Man Who Yells At Clouds.!" Hardison countered.

Now he was quoting memes.

"I ain't that old! This phone's just busted." Eliot's 40th birthday in the spring was going to be horrifying, wasn't it.
geniuswithasmartphone: (Pointing: Sit Yo Ass Down)

RE: Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] geniuswithasmartphone 2016-01-03 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
Hardison wouldn't give Eliot half as much hell for being old if Eliot would stop acting like a grumpy old man when faced with new technology. He knew exactly how intelligent his boyfriend was. But sit him down in front of tech and suddenly he was ranting about how in his day, they had to walk uphill in the snow to use the telegraph system.

"Man, don't you talk smack about that damn phone," Hardison said. "Like I'd let you walk out of the house with busted tech. That's like sayin' you sent me off to visit Nana with a bowl of Spaghetti-Os."
vdistinctive: (want that-face)

"Then why's it always stuck on video?"

It wasn't Eliot's fault technology hated him! Okay, so it was, but still. This way he got Hardison to do things for him.

"Because that's the button you hit," Hardison said, taking the phone and switching it over to camera mode. Well...selfie mode. Because he wasn't going to make this easy on Eliot.
vdistinctive: (disgruntled-face)

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-01-03 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Eliot took the phone back and scowled. "Very funny. Now it's backwards!"

He was totally going to start carrying around a poloroid like a hipster. Just to spite you, Hardison.

And Hardison would replace all of Eliot's pants with skinny jeans.

"I thought you wanted to take a picture," Hardison said, picture of innocence.

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-01-04 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Eliot turned the phone around and took an actually decently framed photo of Hardison in his party hats using selfie mode. The man could operate a sniper rifle. He knew how sight lines and lenses worked.

"I think I'll email this to Nana. Since you get mad when I call her and all."

RE: Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] geniuswithasmartphone 2016-01-04 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Don't get mad it's just...unsettlin'," Hardison grumbled. While smiling because Eliot would send this to Nana, he just would. "You don't see me callin' up Trudy an' talkin' about...whatever you an' Nana talk about."
vdistinctive: (innocent-faces)

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-01-04 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Eliot looked up from where he was poking at the phone, trying to remember how to attach a picture to an email. "You could, you know," he said. "I mean, I know you haven't met and all, but I bet she'd like that."
geniuswithasmartphone: (Boggled Over Shoulder)

RE: Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] geniuswithasmartphone 2016-01-04 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
It was a good thing he wasn't taking the picture now, or he'd've caught Hardison in mid-flail. "I--I could? What would we even talk about! Hell, you don't get me most of the time an' you known me for goin' on eight years now!"

And then, more quietly, he added, "...You really think she would?"

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-01-04 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, 'cause me and your nana have so much in common." They actually kind of did. But Eliot was Not Thinking About That. "You kidding? She's been on my ass to bring you two down and meet her and her kids since last May. A chance to even sort of meet you on the phone? Not randomly in the background on a skype screen? She'd be all over it."
geniuswithasmartphone: (Dubious)

RE: Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] geniuswithasmartphone 2016-01-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Uhh, you do? And that's why it's kinda weird?" Hardison didn't want to explore too deeply into why he'd be head over heels for a guy who reminded him of his foster mother sometimes. "You think I should just...call her outta the blue, then? You ain't worried she'll freak out an' assume somethin' happened to you?"

vdistinctive: (contemplative-face)

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Spring 2016]

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2016-01-04 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Doubt she'll freak out. She's used to not knowin' how I'm doing." The fact that Trudy used to only have flowers on their mother's grave once a year to go by that Eliot was still alive probably wasn't as great an argument for her not freaking out as Eliot thought it was. "Or, I dunno, I could call and hand you the phone, if you want. It ain't that big a deal."

It was a tremendous deal.
