When the portal had opened up on the way to Zhahar's work, the sisters hadn't even paused to discuss it. Zhahar was diving through as Zeela and Sholeh cheered inside her head, Zeela effortlessly taking the body as they rolled out onto the warm expanse of Fandom lawn. As soon as she ascertained that there was no danger (always a possibility with Fandom), she'd given the body to Sholeh who was practically vibrating with excitement. There was really only one place for Sholeh to go. The library had been her favorite place in Fandom, even more 'hers' than their dorm room had been. It just felt right to head back there.

And when the books clustered around her and greeted her like an old friend, she knew she'd made the right choice.

Oh, it felt so lovely to be back!

"Abolishing the Homecoming Carnival," Sparkle replied, shrugging his shoulders.

Which... seemed like a weird thing to base a campaign on, if you hadn't been around for the murder carnival, that one time.

"In retrospect, the kitten would've gotten me even more votes."

Sholeh might not have been there for it, but she was a Fandomite and could read between the lines. "Did you win?" she asked.

Hey, he'd said he'd made a bid, not that he was successful.

"I totally won," Sparkle replied. "And it was probably the most glittery school year, you know, ever. So, go me."

He was preening a bit, yes.

"I'm proud of you, Sparkle," Sholeh said, clapping her hands. "Though I'm not surprised at all. Everybody likes you! You're wonderful. And," she added, hands on her hips. "Don't ever forget that, just because I'm not here to remind you!"

"Prom king this year, too," Sparkle added, grinning shamelessly. "So, you know, at least I have a victory crown that'll let me know."

Yep, everyone loved Sparkle. Especially those cops back in Toronto who had arrested him the other day for arson. Especially them.

He leaned in to poke her shoulder.

"You too, okay? Like, you rock, girly."

She seriously had no idea how badly he needed to hear that he was liked, even if he wasn't going to give that much away.

Sholeh gave him a smile and nodded. It wasn't the most convincing of affirmations, but she wasn't outright denying it today. "Coming back here, I feel so," she said. "There's you and Yeul and Evan. And I haven't seen them yet, but Cecil and Ulrik, too. I had friends here. Real ones. And it felt good."

"Weird thing about this place, right? It... gives people stuff like that. That maybe they wouldn't get anywhere else."

Which was about as deep and serious as Sparkle was willing to get, these days. He gave her a little grin.

"I need to do your hair."

You know, out of the blue, because it had been a while, and why not?

Long enough that it had Sholeh blinking at him, confused. "What? Now?"

But he had her well-trained enough that she was already pulling the ribbons out. So that was nice.

"Right now," Sparkle agreed, pleased. "Oh, I can do, like, one of those French braids, you know the ones? And I can bring it around and it can go under..."

Yes, he was already making grabby hands to fingercomb her hair.

It was zen, okay?

"Okay, okay," Sholeh said, laughing. "But I'm drawing the line at makeup. I didn't bring any today and that just means using yours. And I'm too pale for that!"
