Library, Saturday

When the portal had opened up on the way to Zhahar's work, the sisters hadn't even paused to discuss it. Zhahar was diving through as Zeela and Sholeh cheered inside her head, Zeela effortlessly taking the body as they rolled out onto the warm expanse of Fandom lawn. As soon as she ascertained that there was no danger (always a possibility with Fandom), she'd given the body to Sholeh who was practically vibrating with excitement. There was really only one place for Sholeh to go. The library had been her favorite place in Fandom, even more 'hers' than their dorm room had been. It just felt right to head back there.

And when the books clustered around her and greeted her like an old friend, she knew she'd made the right choice.

Oh, it felt so lovely to be back!

Sholeh understands the importance of needing the library, even on a weekend like this!

Odds are good she missed you! Or will be so excited to meet you for the first time!

Who will be getting a cup of coffee just the way he likes it--and a big hug, at least if Sholeh has her way!

...It's been a post and I'm already fighting the urge to keep these girls forever.

Elsa had only been tangentially aware that there were people coming to the island today in droves, and... to be honest, she was really sort of nervous at the prospect of opening the library, on the chance that there would be a bit of a stampede of people so soon after she was back from Arendelle, which was fairly people-free.

So while she was certainly surprised to see that there was somebody already sitting at the desk when she came in today, she didn't exactly look disappointed.

At all.

In the least, even.

"Now," she said, a tiny smile at play on her lips as she took in the sight of the girl at her desk, "I've been away for a few months, but I know I'm not actually late for work today."

"Oh!" Sholeh said, starting a bit in her chair. Which wasn't really her chair was it? It hadn't been her chair in a few years now, and certainly never on Saturdays. "Triple Stars, I hadn't even thought of that! I'm so sorry!"

She hopped up, gesturing for Elsa to take the newly-vacated spot. "Of course you're not! Umm, hello? I was just..."

...Swept away by nostalgia?

"Making yourself at home in a place where... I'm guessing you spent a fair bit of time?" Elsa's answering smile was gentle, and she waved off the gesture easily. "I understand how it is. I've missed the library, myself, but I'm going to be here to open it for the foreseeable future. You can keep the seat, if you like."

Elsa was generous that way! She looked around for a moment, and then reached to pull a second chair over to the desk.

"This really is the best spot on the island, anyway."

"It really is, isn't it?" Sholeh said, giving Elsa a happy smile. "We're here for the--well, I'm certain something's happening this weekend. They generally don't send portals out for nothing, right?"

*Why don't you introduce us?* Zhahar prodded. *Since she's letting you stay and all.*

::Oh, right!::

"I'm sorry, you must be wondering if we left our manners back on the other side of the portal! I'm Sholeh. Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar. It's very nice to meet another book-lover! And even moreso one who is willing to share her shift!"

The 'we' was an interesting choice of words, though Elsa mostly just figured it was some sort of quirk that was possibly regional. 'Sholeh' wasn't any sort of name that she was familiar with, after all.

"It's a pleasure," Elsa replied, giving a polite little curtsy. "I'm Elsa, of Arendelle. And the fact that the books can't seem to leave you alone is really quite the endorsement, I think."

A few were gathering around Elsa, too. She'd been gone for a while, and they had started to wonder if she was ever going to come back. THEIR LADIES WERE HERE AGAIN.

Sholeh leaned down and picked one up, putting it in her lap and stroking its spine much like she would a kitten. "I miss them all dreadfully," Sholeh admitted. "The books back home don't have such personality! At least, not that you can find outside the pages."

Alluka had thought and thought and thought about Jono's question from class ALL WEEK and had realized once she'd woken up this morning that she really needed to talk to Elsa and that had reminded her that somewhere over the summer she'd picked up that Elsa worked at the library and so Alluka came bouncing through the doors with an exuberant--

"Elsa!"

What indoor voice? What library voice?

Then she stopped and blinked. "You're not Elsa."

This was deeply confusing!

"Where I'm from, the books at least need me to be the one to pick them up before we can curl up to spend some time together," Elsa laughed, softly. "This is a pleasant change of pace. It's always nice when a book can show that it appreciates you as much as you appreciate it."

"Hello!" Sholeh said cheerfully. "No, I'm not. I'm Sholeh. Elsa's letting me visit with the library today while I'm in town. But she might still be around?" Sholeh glanced around for a moment to see if she could spot the other aide. "Is there something that I could help you with in the meantime?" she asked. "I used to work here, too, so I know where to find most things."

Unless the books had all moved around again. Which happened with a fair bit of regularity. Or, at least, it had.

Yeul and Liara had both received invitations to attend the reunion and it never had really been a question about doing so.

Nor had it been a question, for Yeul, about escaping from Liara to go and check the library in hopes of... well... she wasn't really used to hoping, and she wasn't sure it was a good change, but all the same she hoped that she'd find her first, and best friend at the library.

Because if she was here, this was where she would be.

So Yeul peered around the door, green eyes huge in a tiny face, as she looked to see who was in the library.

"Exactly," Sholeh said, smile growing bigger. "It makes you forget how big this library is because it feels so warm and welcoming. The school I'm at now has a library, too; much smaller but so imposing. We always feel as if we're intruding when we step inside."

=Sholeh,= Zeela said softly. =You should look up.=

True, Sholeh's sisters could only see out of Sholeh's own eyes, but Zee had always been much more observant than either Sholeh or Zhahar. So she'd noticed the small head peering in through the doorway, and even on a tiny face, Yeul's expression was recognizable.

"Hmm?" Sholeh murmured, doing as Zeela said and glancing up.

Green eyes met green as Sholeh stood up with a gasp, book falling, unheeded, to the floor. And then she was dashing over to the doorway, skirts rucked up to her knees. "Yeul! Oh Yeul!" she cried.

"I don't know if I need a book," Alluka admitted shamelessly. "Especially since I know Elsa could help me, but maybe books would be helpful anyway."

Especially if they had pretty pictures. She liked books, but she liked pictures better.

"I'm Alluka! It's nice to meet you!"

It's okay, Alluka. Time would show that you were wrong and books were the best.

"The pleasure is all mine," Sholeh said, smiling at Alluka, her cheer infectious. Not that Sholeh needed much reason to be grinning right now. "Is it something only Elsa can help you with? Because I don't mind trying to help, if you think I might be able to."

It was the job of an aide to assist a library patron, of course!

"She isn't, but I'm over here," Elsa said, giving a little laugh and waving from the returns cart. "Hello, Alluka. How have you been?"

Her enthusiasm was always delightful, wasn't it?

"My family has a library," Elsa replied, nodding her agreement. "It's got a very different feel to it than the one here. And the books there are... far less varied. There are topics here that I hadn't even dreamed could exist."

"Sholeh!" Yeul said, reaching out for a hug as Sholeh got closer. "You're here!"

It was strange, it really was, how unreservedly happy Yeul was about that.

"I'm glad!"

And she really was.

Alluka giggled.

"Okay!" she said happily. "Do you, do you know anything about Halloween?"

"Elsa, Elsa, Elsa!" Alluka bounced on over to her. "Hi! I found you!"

And someone else! Today was pretty interesting!

"Are you busy?"

"I am!" Sholeh said, scooping Yeul up and hugging her tightly. There were tears, but they were happy ones, so she didn't think Yeul would mind if Sholeh got her shirt a little damp. "And so are you! Oh, Yeul, I've missed you so much!"

"I know a little bit about it," Sholeh admitted. "We don't celebrate Halloween where we're from, but I learned about it while I went to school here. What do you need to know?"

And whatever she didn't know that Alluka asked about, she could probably find it in a book! Huzzah, books!
