Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could work on their tan while they ate, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool and non-crispy.

All of the tables had some blue and gold glitter scattered across them, because there was always enough to go around. This school certainly was blesesed in all the right ways.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

So not only was nobody going to throw him out, somebody had actually gotten Dante a place to crash. He'd be happily confused about it if he didn't suspect something more was going on.

But you know what?

He was still exhausted off of healing his injuries from the last place he'd been staying at, the weather was nice, and there was free food. He'd deal with whatever was trying to screw with him later, when it tried to screw with him.

He grabbed a giant plate full of burgers, took off his coat and put it aside, and stretched out against a tree in the sun. Not bad.

At one point Dipper decided to stop being a total dork and actually interact with people. Putting aside his journal for a few minutes he went up to one of the newbies to introduce himself.

"Hi! I'm Dipper Pines. Welcome to Fandom. Are you settling in all right?"

Judging by the plate of hamburgers, Dipper assumed that was a safe bet.

"I got free food, a free view, and free entertainment," Dante said, nodding at various shirtless or half-dressed people on the second and the pony on the third. "Life could be worse."

Especially since he had some place to crash tonight. Probably.

"Well that's a pretty upbeat attitude," Dipper said. He'd been doing his best not to gawk at everyone in swimsuits and shirtlessness. "Most people get pretty rattled on their first day here."

Nothing had tried to attack him or drag him into Limbo so far. For Dante, that made today practically a Bahamas vacation or something.

"Eh, I like a little rattling," Dante said. "Keeps a guy awake."

"Well you won't a problem with that here," Dipper chuckled. "You should have no problem adjusting to this place."

"It's a school. What's there to adjust to?"

He nodded towards Pinkie. "I mean, besides the demons."

Unless he was hallucinating Pinkie, which... you know, he might be.

"Demon?"

Dipper turned and looked at Pinkie. "Oh! I thought she was just a taking pony. Is she a demon? She seems too cheerful to be a demon. Are there such a thing as cheerful demons?"

"Yeah," Dante said. "That's usually when you start running. Or fighting your way out."

Dipper didn't look like the fighting your way out type.

Dipper certainly had that look about him. Though he has his moments of valor from time to time.

"Well she's been around all summer and hasn't eaten anyone yet. I'm pretty sure she's safe."

"Maybe she's just neighing her time," said Dante.

Yeah, he actually said that.

"What? Oh! Ha-ha! Good one!"

Truthfully it wasn't that funny but Dante seemed cooler than Dipper so Dipper was just rolling with it.

"Still... She's a teacher at the school. I don't think they'd let a demon teach here if she were dangerous."

'sokay if you didn't laugh, Dipper. Dante wasn't particularly invested in whether anyone thought he was funny or not.

"You'd be surprised," he said, shrugging.

"Oh, hey," Ringo said, pausing as she walked by the tree Dante had selected. "You're new, right?" She glanced at his coat. "I haven't seen you around, and that thing looks a bit heavy for today's weather."

"Yeah, I just got here," Dante said, looking up, a brief moment of wariness darting past his eyes for all of a split-second before giving away. "Go me."

That moment of wariness made Ringo try to look eve more harmless than normal. Which was pretty harmless, to be honest, at least under normal circumstances.

"You don't sound very excited," Ringo said, pointing out the obvious. "I'm going to guess that you weren't planning on being here?"

"Fell asleep on a bench, woke up enrolled in a school," Dante said. "What are you gonna do? Bureaucracy."

Ringo laughed. "Well, maybe it'll be a good thing." She shrugged. "This school is pretty weird, but in a cool way, you know?"

"I've heard about fifty takes on that one already," Dante said.

Several of them terrifying, though probably not in the way most people around here would think of them as being terrifying. "What's yours?"

"Mostly that the classes are a lot of fun. I've been sky-diving, and wind-surfing, and all sorts of awesome stuff." She shrugged. "Way more interesting than learning geometry."

"You know, I think you're about the second person today to bring up the lack of geometry," Dante said. "You people must've been going to some boring schools before this."

Said the guy who'd really had little education to speak of in general and wouldn't even be able to tell you what area of math geometry was supposed to be.

"Well," Ringo shrugged, "aren't most schools pretty boring? I didn't think that places that taught these sorts of classes even existed outside of TV or whatever."

Dante shrugged. "Schools have got to be boring, or I'd remember more of it," he said. "Wind-surfing, huh?"

"Wind-surfing," she confirmed with a grin. "It's pretty sweet, but I think sky-diving is more fun." A shrug. "But they're both great."

She cocked her head to one side. "You ever do anything exciting like that?"

"You could say that," Dante said. After a long, long beat.

"Never been wind-surfing or sky-diving, though."
