Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone might have been getting ready for the fall semester, but it was definitely still summertime in Fandom. The temperature was high, the wind was low, and it was only going to get hotter once everyone arrived.

There were chairs and tables set out around the lawn, some in shady spots and some out in the sun, and there was a long table of moddable food culminating in a table full of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet choices. There were also stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"You're asking me --" Merrill blinked a couple of times, then laughed nervously. "Creators, I really have gone somewhere completely different, haven't I? I'm an elf . . . the Elvhen, we call ourselves. Have you not seen one of us before?"

Mara shook her head. "I'm more used to Chiss or Bothans or Rodians, I'm afraid."

"I've never heard of any of them. That's fair, I think," Merrill said, and laughed awkwardly.

Then, remembering that she was supposed to be sharing living space with this girl, she blurted out, "It won't be a problem, will it? Having an elf around?"

"Sometimes I get tangled up in the sheets in my sleep, but -- why would I want to eat people?"

Mara shrugged. "Sometimes other species are a little more carnivorous," she said. "I'm very against getting eaten by my roommate."

"Is that all it takes, then?" Merrill asked with a tiny laugh. "I hope I won't be too much of a bother. And if I have to live with a stranger, you seem nice, so that's all right."

"My last roommate was a boy who could set himself on fire, so I think you're going to be a little different," Mara said.

"I can set other things on fire, but I won't be doing that indoors, I promise."

"Mostly because then he could make puns about how hot he was," Mara said with a little smirk. "At least, that was my theory."
