Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Everyone might have been getting ready for the fall semester, but it was definitely still summertime in Fandom. The temperature was high, the wind was low, and it was only going to get hotter once everyone arrived.

There were chairs and tables set out around the lawn, some in shady spots and some out in the sun, and there was a long table of ~~moddable~~ food culminating in a table full of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet choices. There were also stacks of nametags for people to label themselves with, and lists to help folks find their siblings and roommates. With everything in order, it was time to welcome some new people!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

When Maria saw that her roommate was going to be a guy, she shook her head. This was one of those things that she was not telling her mother. Still, it could be a fun experience to have a new friend that was male and not in a dating sense of any kind.

So done with that.

"You look familiar. Were you on the bus?" Frank asked. He wasn't playing coy, the bus ride was already a hazy blur in the past. "Well, whatever. To roommates!" He lifted his glass in a toast and then drank to whatever he just said.

Maria nodded. "Yeah, I was on the bus. I'm Maria." She watched him drink and decided again that this was not something that her mother would ever be told about. "I'm guessing you're my new roommate, Frank?"

"Unless some kind of wacky office mishap occurs between now and the time we get to our room, yes," Frank said. "But that doesn't seem likely at this point."

Maria shook her head. "No, that doesn't seem all that likely since we made it here in one piece."

Over the next few days she was going to get curious about what he was drinking.

The answer will be: a lot.

"I hope you don't mind, but one of our closets will end up being entirely stocked with drinks and drink accessories," Frank declared. "Not that it matters if you do mind because I get to store whatever valuables I want in my closet, but I figured it would be helpful to try to get off on the proverbial good foot."

Maria grinned. "Do you share or am I on my own if I have a really bad day?"

Not that she thought that would happen from what she had seen here so far.

"But, it's your closet so you can set up a mini bar in there if you decide to and it's not going to bother me at all."

"There won't be anything mini about the bar. Cramped, maybe, but not mini," Frank scoffed. "And I suppose that if we're going to share a room, I could share my liquor. I'm loathe to share anything, mind you, but in for a penny, in for a whole roll of pennies or whatever that saying is."

"I bet if you turn our room into a bar you could probably make quite a profit from the dorms to buy yourself more alcohol."

Maria! Don't give your new roommate bad ideas on the first day.

"I'd never. First off, limiting the amount of liquor I have on-hand for myself at any given moment? No thank you," Frank said. "And then setting up a situation where I encourage people to stop in and tell me their problems? I'd rather limit the amount of liquor I have on-hand for myself at any given moment!"

"Those are all very good points," Maria decided after he finished telling her all of the reasons it would be a bad idea. "I'm not a fan of everyone being in our room and sharing all of their issues and problems."

She had enough to deal with of her own.

"In that case, we should get along just fine," Frank decided.

"I think so, too," Maria agreed.

She was pretty sure that she lucked out in the roommate lottery.
