Sneaking 101, Thursday

There was no Atton this week. Just Ezra. Also the Danger Shop was programmed to look like a movie theater. So if your immediate guess was that this week's session would be easy, you were absolutely one hundred percent correct.

"Hey," Ezra said, waving lazily from where he was slouched in a seat near the back. "Atton's not here, so I'm in charge. And that means we're giving the actual sneaking a pass this week. It's just as important to see what other people are doing sometimes, you know?"

He didn't know, really. He was just being lazy.

"So without further hassle, sit down and enjoy our feature presentation of the day."

Six high school seniors decide to break into the Princeton Testing Center so they can steal the answers to their upcoming SAT tests and all get perfect scores.

Yes, there's sneaking involved.

Also you can talk throughout the movie. It's not as if Ezra gives a crap.

Kathy Li

Watching Kathy's face during the movie might be even more entertaining than the movie itself. Let's just say she had very strong feelings about what these students were doing.

Tali'Zorah

No, Tali wasn't going to argue with an easy day today; safe to say she wasn't really in the mood for anything strenuous, and was simply sitting in a seat off to the side with her head resting against the wall. She also wasn't paying much attention to the movie, not that you could tell. The mask was useful sometimes.

Raven Darkholme

Raven was in fact absolutely watching Kathy's face during the movie. "You know," she whispered. "They are showing a certain amount of critical thinking ability."

"No, no, no!" Kathy hissed. "Don't get me wrong--the SATs are absolutely a flawed and terrible system of determining intelligence and stuff, but what they're doing is undermining everyone who studied!"

Was Kathy thinking of the many long hours of studying she'd put into the exams earlier in the summer?

YES. YES SHE WAS.

"If they get caught, they might make the entire year's test null and void, because there's no way anyone can prove they didn't make the answers available to anyone else!"

"Well then, doesn't that just further prove what a flawed system it is?" Raven asked.

She had no opinion at all on it, she was just arguing for argument's sake.

Kathy had no idea what was going on behind the mask, but she had read the radio notes this morning and could ready basic body language. So at one point when she simply couldn't keep watching the movie anymore, she leaned over to whisper, "Hey. Umm, feel free to tell me to go back to the movie, but...you okay?"

"This movie is terrible." Kathy thought you ought to know this, Ezra. It was very important.

And because it was fun to make Kathy's brain explode?

"Yeah, but the fact that it's flawed doesn't stop it from being incredibly important to your future!" Kathy declared. "This isn't going to change the SATs any, it's just going to make it that much harder for everyone who depends on them!"

Garik Loran

Well yes. Hardison was teaching her well?

"It'll draw attention to it, though. Especially if a whole year of scores need to get thrown out. If no one applying to college even has test scores that year than how can the colleges hold it against them?"

"You're wrong, darling," Ezra informed her, because the movie had a young Scarlett Johansson and a young Chris Evans, and he was shallow. "But okay."

HARDISON WAS ALREADY ON NOTICE FOR TODAY'S STUNT WITH RADIO. (Also, Kathy was plenty scary!)

"They can just make the students retake them," Kathy huffed. "Or--or...okay, that's not a terrible point. But what about the students that have spent a ton of money and time preparing for the tests just to find out they don't count? I'd wring these kids' goddamn necks if that happened to me!"

"Oh, really?" Kathy asked. "Your arguments to the contrary?"

Ezra nodded towards the big screen.

"Are you really saying no to the ScarJo?"

Tali lifted her head slowly and turned to look, then nodded once in a gesture of appreciation.

"Not really, but I will be," she said in a low voice. There was too much to do for her to dwell on this too long, which was about the last thing Shepard would want any of them to do anyway. "Thanks. How did you -- keelah, the squirrels. Right."

She didn't sound upset about that -- you didn't really have much in the way of privacy living on a ship, especially in the Migrant Fleet, but she'd forgotten about the squirrels, who would probably be offended to be thought of as low-tech surveillance.

"I mean, like, I wouldn't turn her down if she showed up looking for a good time," Kathy said, "but she's not on my Celebrity Hit List." She glanced over at the screen again.

"...Chris Evans is, though," she admitted. "Still, there are tons of good movies he's in!"

"Yeah, sorry," Kathy said. "They poke their noses into everything." Though now she was thinking she probably should have edited the broadcast a little, rather than just telling everyone about Tali's business. "You know Liara? The same Liara who went here?"

Then she blushed. "That's probably a really stupid question. I'm sorry. I shouldn't just be doing the whole, 'she's from space, you're from space, clearly you must know one another!' thing."

"So is everyone just supposed to stick with the screwed up status quo because some folks have had to spend money to keep up with it?"
