When students arrived, the danger shop didn't look like anything in particular. Just a big, empty room. Pretty boring, to be honest.

"Welcome to Tactics and Teamwork," Washington said. "I'm Agent Washington, your instructor. We'll have further introductions after running drills. Get to it."

Cardio was important when it came to not dying, kids! Just be glad he didn't have time to plan out the perfect obstacle course for you as well.

This was also a good way to gauge the fitness levels of the class. Just... don't puke or anything. He wasn't going to clean that up. Only once laps were completed was everyone presented with a very basic set of body armor in either red or blue and a paintball gun with the same color bullets. Fair warning, even with the armor, it would still sting.

"I'm aware that there is an uneven number of students in this class, so for the purposes of team exercises, there will be a simulation soldier programmed into the system to assist you," Washington said. "For this class, I want to see where your skills are at working in working as a cohesive team against one another. The objective is to remove all the opponents on the other team from play by hitting them with the paintball gun."

The room changed into... well, pretty much like it was before. Only this time, there were large storage crates scattered around for cover.

"I'll be keeping an eye on your progress and will step in should anyone get too... enthusiastic."

Winded? By a few laps? Pffft!

Kathy hadn't run at top speed during the drills, keeping herself to a normal person's sprint until her laps were done. The armor was tricky, however, and she wasn't a huge fan of how it weighed her down.

"Kathy Li, rising senior," she said, checking her range of motion while wearing the armor. She wasn't going to complain about wearing it, but she wanted to know up front if she could still do a backflip while wearing it, rather than finding out when it actually mattered.

Yes, backflips were still possible. Though it would be loads easier if he'd been nice and given them the power armor.

"Rising senior?"

"It's what it's called in the summertime, when you finished your previous year, but the next hasn't started yet," Kathy said with a shrug. "No longer a junior, not quite a senior."

Could she maybe put in a request for power armor for next time?

Not unless she wanted to steal it from a Freelancer.

"Why not just say senior? The previous class should have graduated and that means they're not students anymore. No titles given." Well. "Beyond the future unemployed."

No, the job market would never get better. Unless you join the military. Which had a great pension plan of 'you're still alive!' and paid overtime.

Lucky bastards.

Kathy shrugged. "Because rising senior is the term I was told?" she said. "I don't know if we count as proper seniors yet because the fall term hasn't started yet."

Wow. Their teacher had a rosy view of the future, didn't he?

Oh! Kathy! Ringo tried to keep her wave subdued, so as not to be distracting, but she was glad to see the other girl again.

Even if they did seem to be on different teams.

Kathy waved back, and then mouthed You're going dowwwwwn. She winked and beamed at Ringo after saying it, though, so the other girl would know she was only teasing.

Ringo laughed and shrugged. Given her unfamiliarity with all this gear? Kathy was probably right. But hopefully it'd be fun!

Kathy was just talking smack anyway. She had no idea how paintball guns and this armor worked. But banter? That was completely expected, right?
