Tactics and Teamwork, Wednesday - Second Period

When students arrived,  the danger shop didn't look like anything in particular. Just a big, empty room. Pretty boring,  to be honest.

"Welcome to Tactics and Teamwork," Washington said. "I'm Agent Washington,  your instructor. We'll have further introductions after running drills. Get to it."

Cardio was important when it came to not dying, kids! Just be glad he didn't have time to plan out the perfect obstacle course for you as well.

This was also a good way to gauge the fitness levels of the class. Just... don't puke or anything. He wasn't going to clean that up. Only once laps were completed was everyone presented with a very basic set of body armor in either red or blue and a paintball gun with the same color bullets. Fair warning, even with the armor, it would still sting.

"I'm aware that there is an uneven number of students in this class, so for the purposes of team exercises, there will be a simulation soldier programmed into the system to assist you," Washington said. "For this class, I want to see where your skills are at working in working as a cohesive team against one another. The objective is to remove all the opponents on the other team from play by hitting them with the paintball gun."

The room changed into... well, pretty much like it was before. Only this time, there were large storage crates scattered around for cover.

"I'll be keeping an eye on your progress and will step in should anyone get too... enthusiastic."

"I'm Clarke," she grunted, trying to attach the armor to her legs. "I...I don't really know what else you want me to say."

On the Ark everybody basically knew each other so introductions weren't necessary.

"My name is Ringo Noyamano," Ringo said. Pulling the armor on had been pretty straightforward, but now she seemed to be kind of stuck in a cycle of jumping a few times, then adjusting straps so that it fit more comfortably, and then repeating.

"And I've never done anything quite like this before." Armor. That was totally new. Which probably helped explain the constant readjustment.

Winded? By a few laps? Pffft!

Kathy hadn't run at top speed during the drills, keeping herself to a normal person's sprint until her laps were done. The armor was tricky, however, and she wasn't a huge fan of how it weighed her down.

"Kathy Li, rising senior," she said, checking her range of motion while wearing the armor. She wasn't going to complain about wearing it, but she wanted to know up front if she could still do a backflip while wearing it, rather than finding out when it actually mattered.

Oh! Kathy! Ringo tried to keep her wave subdued, so as not to be distracting, but she was glad to see the other girl again.

Even if they did seem to be on different teams.

"Celia Bowen," she called out when it was her turn, only a bit out of breath. She'd taken a quick moment to transform her skirts into a pair of form-fitting yoga leggings when it had become apparent that there'd be running, and was now making similar adjustments to her blouse, drawing the color out of the cotton and shrinking it to be more like a T-shirt before she put the armor on. "I'll be a senior in the fall. Should I plan on running every time we meet? I'll dress more appropriately in the future so I don't need to make adjustments."

Face rapped his armour with his knuckles. Huh, it didn't feel like plasteel.

"I'm Face," he said, looking it over to see how it was supposed to go on.

Well, Tali had spent a lot of her time recently running around various places with Shepard while wearing body armor (several times in prefab warehouses on remote planets that looked a lot like the room's current setting, even!), which meant that A) she was glad she'd had that conditioning and B) putting on the armor now was only difficult in that it wasn't her own and the clasps were located in different places. Sure, she was breathing a little more heavily, but it wasn't like she wanted to lie down and die after a few laps.

"Tali," she said, nodding as she looked over the paintball gun. (And spun a few theories in her head about what she'd change about the design if it were up to her, because she just couldn't help herself.) "I just got here a few days ago, and I'm . . . not sure what else you want to know, really."

"I am Cassandra Pentaghast," said Cassandra, who had only a small modicum of difficulty figuring out the new armor. "And I am not unused to combat in groups."

Even if she didn't get nearly enough of it at home.

... Body armor?

Eric eyed it dubiously before attempting to struggle in to it.

He got there, eventually. "Eric Bittle," he said, a feeling of dread forming in the pit of his stomach as he noticed the paintball guns. "I think I'm in the wrong class." He wasn't. His name was on the roster and everything.

The idea of combat was something Ringo could deal with, especially sort-of mock combat. But the guns thing was new, and Ringo looked incredibly uncomfortable as she crouched behind one of the crates.

Eric lasted a total of maybe twenty seconds before a paintball came a bit too close for his liking and he collapsed to the floor with a shriek of surprise.

For the record, 'too close' was actually 'far enough that it never had any chance of actually connecting' but you try telling that to the lizard-brain of one Eric Richard Bittle.
