Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Cecil was enjoying the finally warmer weather, and he and Foucault were basking in the sunlight and just looking very happy. And covered in glitter.

Alluka peered at Cecil over the top of her stuffed bunny and giggled. "You have a funny bird," she said.

She'd never seen one before, therefore it was funny.

"Isn't he neat?" Cecil asked, grinning. "Hi! He's Foucault; I'm Cecil. You must be new - hi!"

He'd said that already, hadn't he? Oh, well!

She grinned back at him.

"I don't even have a toy that looks like him," she shared. "I have a lot of toys of animals."

Alluka had tons of toys.

"I'm Alluka," she added. "And I got here today!"

"I've never seen any toys or any other...well, anything...like him," Cecil agreed, scritching Foucault's head fondly. "I've been here a couple of years now. It's pretty nice. Where are you from?"

"From my room," she said, which wasn't at all helpful. "Do you know what he is? He's really cute."

And weird. But cute.

Eh, he knew people from stranger places.

"Not really? We've been calling him an osmingo, 'cause he's sort of like an ostrich but mostly a flamingo."

And he was now blinking at Alluka and poking at the beads in her hair.

She giggled.

"Those are my beads," Alluka said. "Aren't they pretty?"

Well, she thought they were pretty.

Foucault honked happily and poked them again.

"Foucault, behave!" Cecil thumped him gently on the head. "They are pretty!" he agreed. "And just let me know if he gets annoying, okay? He just likes everybody and he's really curious."

"You thumped him!" Alluka hoped that he didn't try to thump her. That would make her sad. "Can I, can I give him a hug?"

So he'd feel better!

"Oh, not that hard!" Cecil assured her. "But sure, you can hug him if you want! He likes hugs." Foucault liked everything.

Alluka liked pretty much everything too, when it meant she got to do things.

"Yay! Thank you!"

She tried very hard to be careful as she went to give Foucault a hug.

Foucault fluffed his feathers and put his head over her shoulder, honking happily again. And started preening her hair.

"Hold on!" Cecil said. "I'll get a picture!"

She giggled at the feeling of Foucault's beak in her hair.

"Okay!" Alluka said happily. She could wait.

She was good at waiting.

Cecil pulled out his phone and snapped a picture, snickering a bit himself at the adorable picture they made. "Here, look! What do you think?" He turned it so she could see.

She had to let go of Foucault to get a proper look at the picture, but when she did, she laughed.

"We look silly!"

"You look adorable!" Cecil protested, grinning. "And a little silly, but most everything Foucault does looks a little silly." He rubbed his head fondly.

"I like him," Alluka shared. "And you too!"

Cecil was nice and not scary, she'd decided.

"Thank you!" Cecil grinned. "You're pretty sweet yourself. Do you hug people, too, or just birds?"

Her eyes went big.

"I can hug people too!"

Did he want a hug? She could totally give him a hug!

"Yay!" Cecil held out his arms for a careful hug. She seemed a lot younger than she was, and he didn't think it was just because he was much older than he was, so he was going to let her do the hugging and not startle her or anything.

The hug on her part was definitely not nearly so careful with him as it had been with Foucault, as Alluka went more for what she'd do with Killua.

So it was really more of a glomp than a hug, in that case.

"I'm so happy," she admitted.

Glomps were good, too!

"Good!" Cecil told her, hugging back a little more firmly. "Everybody should be happy as often as possible. It's really all we've got against the general angst and horror of life, right?"

Alluka didn't really fully parse that but she got the gist of it enough to beam at him.

And his snuggly hugs. She liked that too.

"Yes!" she said. "And because it's more fun."

That was the real reason, Cecil.

"Definitely!" Cecil beamed right back. "Hey, have you had any food yet? The food here's pretty good, too."
