Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

After making a round at the food table and doing some initial investigating, Dipper settled down on a bench and pulled out a beat up journal to start making notes on what he had noticed or discovered thus far.

Like the giant nerd he was.

At the moment he was writing down details on the trip through the bottomless pit and the arrival to Fandom.

The notebook caught Cosima's eye, and she paused near Dipper. "Hey, this is random, but what are you writing?"

"Everything I can remember from this morning," Dipper said looking up briefly to see-

Oh. Hey. A girl. Dipper paused a bit and suddenly his voice was a tad bit deeper and more authoritative.

"Me and my sister fell down a bottomless pit and ended up here in the forest. I want to make sure I document everything for further analysis."

He would have sounded really authoritative if his voice hadn't cracked on the last word. Oh, well.

"A bottomless pit," Cosima said, seeming to take it in stride. (She'd noticed the shift in his voice; honestly, it amused her more than anything.) "And here I thought the red-eye from San Fran was pretty snazzy."

"Oh, so you meant to come here?" Dipper asked. "Somehow my sister and I were signed up to be students and everything without us knowing. I'm Dipper Pines. We come from Piedmont California. All things considered i would've preferred the red-eye flight to a pit."

"Yeah, I was sick of my old school, so ...." Cosima shrugged. It wasn't a great story, really. Nothing bad had happened; she just hadn't fit in. "Can they do that? Just register people without them knowing? That's like kidnapping."

"I guess so?" Dipper said shrugging and holding up his hands in the air. "And I mean it's not like it's kidnapping. I didn't even know I was coming here."

"But that's what kidnapping is," Cosima argued. "You were doing your own thing and somehow the island took you here. Which ... doesn't actually make any scientific sense."

"I know, right?" Dipper said with a half-chuckle. "I mean I'm used to things not adding up at all but this place is practically upside down. My roommate told me this is actually France and it moved across the ocean to America! The technology here must be amazing!"

"Wait, France moved?" Cosima was very confused. "Well, that explains why that Lottie girl in the airport kept trying to speak French..."

"That's my roommate!" Dipper exclaimed before frowning a little. "Still I have no solid evidence that it's true. She said something about machinery under the island. I'm going to have to look into that."

"... I wouldn't exactly consider her a reliable source," Cosima said. "She seemed pretty convinced she was going to France back at the airport. Maybe she wished it so hard it's true for her."

Because seriously, one person being incredibly confused made more sense to her than a magical moving island.

"Still it's not the strangest thing I've heard today," Dipper said with a shrug. "There's a taking pink pony here that bakes."

Cosima squinted at him. "I saw the pony already," she admitted. "I missed the part where it talks and bakes."

Dipper held up his hand in a scout oath and covered. "I solemnly swear I have not taken any drugs today," he promised.

"Too bad," Cosima laughed. "I was going to ask for some of you had."

More seriously, she added, "So are you and your sister going to stick around? What with having been kidnapped here and everything."

"I guess. If this place is a different world, I have no idea how to get back," Dipper said looking pensive. "Unless you know a place around here that has a bottomless pit. Even the. I'm not sure I'd be up to jumping into anything that quickly."

"I have no idea," Cosima admitted, sounding as if she didn't like it much. "But ... good luck? I hope you can at least call home so nobody freaks out too much."

"Haven't tried that yet," Dipper said with another frown. He hadn't thought about his parents. Would the time delay of the pit still work? This was getting worse and worse.

"I'll do it later when I get back to my room. Pretty sure the whole call will get me grounded."

"At least they'll have a nice long time to cool down before you see them again?" Cosima tried.

Kaylin'e eyes were huge. "We're not going to be tested on this are we?"

"Hmm. What?" Dipper said looking up from his book. "This? Nooooo. I'm just writing everything down so I don't miss anything."

That got a frown. "But if you're staring at your book thing, aren't you missing what's going on around you?" she asked.
