Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were tables and chairs set up all around the lawn. Some were in the sun, where folks could soak up that precious vitamin D, and some were in the shade where folks could stay cool.

All of the tables had at least a little glitter on them though. It was a welcoming gesture to get glitter someplace you didn't know glitter could go!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Welcome picnic. Best day of the semester.

Edward was stacking the food up high already, though he was currently busying himself with an apple he'd poached off the table earlier. Mmm.

"There's glitter in everything," Isabelle informed him, wandering over. Curiously enough, it didn't sound like as much of a complaint as it might have from someone else. "I'm going to miss this."

"You've still got several months worth of glitter to roll about in," Edward said, grinning up at her. "Take your fill."

"I feel like perhaps I should try and take a lot of it with me when I go," she mused, shrugging. "Not that I'm sure about when that's happening."

"You haven't set a departure date, as it were?" Edward asked.

Not that he minded that.

"No," she said, and sipped her drink. With everything back home, she didn't even know what she was going back to, which didn't help with planning any – but that wasn't really picnic conversation. "I mean, I guess I'll have to leave before the fall term starts," she added lightly. "It'd be unfair if they had to vote me Homecoming Queen again."

Edward laughed. "I'd vote for you regardless," he promised. "You look fantastic in a crown."

"I know." She preened anyway. "But I guess after four of them I should give others a chance."

"I just earned my first," Edward said. "You should share your secrets, so I may pick up this habit of yours for my own purposes."

"Oh, no, I think I'll be holding onto those," she told him, shaking her head. "I wouldn't want you trying to overshadow my achievements."

"It's not as if anyone will elect me Homecoming Queen," Edward said. "Besides, I'll be a senior. I've two more crowns to pursue, I'll never make your number."

"Well, that's true." A beat. "I'm still not giving away my secrets, though."

Mostly because she had no idea how she'd done it, because that kind of popularity thing wasn't really something she'd grown up with, no matter how much her ego suggested otherwise.

But no one needed to know that.

Edward let out a huff. "Keep your secrets, then," he said, sounding totally put-upon, really. "Ready to face the new semester, however long you'll be?"

Isabelle gave that one an elegant shrug. "I'm supposed to be a TA for Lady Ghanima this term. I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

"She's the blonde, isn't she?"

Of course that's what he remembered.

"That's not what I would lead with." Because Isabelle would've gone for the eyes first. "But yes, Ed. The blonde."

"What's she teaching?" Edward said. By now, he largely relied on paperwork errors to pick his courses for him. He'd looked on the schedule to see if Parker was teaching, and that was about it.

"Physical education," she said. "Seems to be mostly fighting. So I'm sure you can see how I qualify to help."

Edward let out a short laugh. "I'm feeling sorry for your students already," he said. "Try not to rough 'em up too much."

Isabelle wrinkled her nose.

"But that's the most fun part!"

Fear her.

"You are a violent woman," Edward announced. "I hope you're aware of it."

Said the guy who started bar fights on the regular.

"I was raised to be one," Isabelle pointed out. "I'm the greatest and most gifted violent woman of my generation, no less."

No really, it was a thing. She would've been the best young Shadowhunter had it not been for Jace.

"And gifted with no small amount of modesty," Edward teased.

"Modesty is an easy way to never get any credit for how great you are," Isabelle replied without missing a beat. "Thanks, but no thanks."

"You should let Lady Ghanima know the class should be informed of your greatness at the start," Edward said, smirking. "All the better to get that important fawning in."
